I have finally decided to start a blog about my SBG projects. I collect several armies including the dwarfs, Rohan, Moria, Harad, Mordor and the Shire. I focus on the first named currently, but I will probably switch from one army to another from time to time. I really enjoy converting miniatures, but I don’t like painting. Yet, I hate to play with unpainted armies even more, so expect some painted miniatures as well :) I would appreciate your comments and ideas.

Enough talk and let’s post some pictures! My actual project is dwarf army for SBG (I plan to use it both for Khazad-Dum and Erebor). I like the costumes design of the old dwarfs much better then the new Hobbit line. Unfortunately, the technical quality of the figures was much lower ten years ago. Therefore, I have decided to make some changes, head and hand swapping, little bit of greenstuffing and so on. I will start with the rangers, probably my favorite unit at all! On the right are the original models.

More radical conversions next time :)

Very nice subtle changes. I appreciate you don't like painting it the attention you have put to these suggests there will be an excellent finish in store.

You look quite experienced with all these subtle changes. Being a relative beginner to painting I've never done much like this so I'm taking notes.

Yes we need Mohawk's and perhaps tattoos ... lol

The hair is astonishingly fine - the ponytail on dwarf 5 down/left of pic is superb. Very well done - I am pretty useless at this sort of thing - hiding seams is about my limit.

Out of interest what tool do you use to get the fine lines ? A scalpel blade a needle or something else ?

Azog, I use the sculpting tool from GW. It's handy both for sculpting flat areas and sharp details.

I consider most of the GW stuff overpriced, but this thing is extremely useful and for reasonable price too 8)

I've got good news and bad news. First the good news: I made pictures of the finished ranger conversions, all 24 of them. The bad news: for some mysterious reason, Microsoft Picture Manager turned half of them to blank pages after size conversion, which makes me a sad khazad :gimli:

I've already started with painting, so cannot make new photos of the greenstuffing. Anyway, I hope you like at least these:

Very nice. You are skilled at adding those details that should be there in the first place. 8)

Those are some outstanding ranger conversions. Small changes and careful greenstuff completely transform them!

:yay:

Fortunately, I managed to get a picture just before sunset. Five minuts later and it would be too late :) Here we go. My first group of dwarfs:

Thanks :) I chose blue as the main colour for the whole dwarf army. I've decided to use some green on the rangers as well, as it seems logical to me. But otherwise, it will be boys in blue.

A picture from today’s battle - it made me realize I should post some pictures of my progress with the dwarf hold! As you can see, it grew a little bit.
But for today, just a picture of the whole Dain's army facing the host of Mordor:
