 OOh errr sorry been a little busy and didn't realise this had not been set up already. Apologies.

Welcome to the January 2015 Painting Challenge. The topic this month is

Image

THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES

This month will be a single miniature challenge and is open to anything at all from the Battle of five armies. Only one model can be submitted for the vote.

1. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

2. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of January 31st 2015. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos of your completed entry please, this allows you to show your miniature off from front, back and each side which is more than enough. If you would like to compile more than one pictures into one file it is ok to do that

Pictures of completed models must be submit using a third party hosting site such as photobucket or imageshack. Pictures submit by attachment will not be eligible for the vote. Any problems PM me.

3. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

4. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all!

Is it anything from the whole movie or just from the battle itself?

I would like to do the old Bolg /Gundabad general sculpt which makes a brief appearance in the movie...

does this mean the mini has to be from the Battle of the Five Armies film line of releases? Are minis from AUJ, DOS and LOTR permitted as long as they represent something from BOFA?

So a LoTR Legolas would be eligible, even though he has a new profile? I don't have any BoFA minis and I haven't seen the movie yet (I know, I know...)

Are Gundabad Orcs, Radagast on foot or Hunter Orcs on Wargs in the film?

Gundabad orcs are definitely in the film. Radagast spends most of the time on his sleigh, but I'm pretty sure he hops off at some point. Can't remember about hunter orcs though. I don't think wargs are in the film, but they are in the book. You can see them in the some of the TV spots though with footage that wasn't in the theatrical release, so presumably they'll feature in the extended edition.

Oooh, painting one for yourself Kev? That particular mini seems like it would be one that would be hard to give up after it was done... Must catch up on the BoFA stuff myself. I'm just hoping a few Orcs get released at some point 8)

Lol I wish it was for me. The Orc Drummer is for myself but the Bolg is going to a client of mine. It was actually commissioned by his wife for his birthday without his knowledge. I like her style:-)

I don't worry about giving the models up at the end anymore. All part of the masterplan muuaaaah ha ha haaaaaaaaarrrr

I'm easy to convince. :) Here's my daughter's Christmas gift Thorin. She's pressuring me to do prime job with him, so the expectations are high.

Great model choice Ares. Just a quick reminder but finished entries submit via the attachment option are no longer eligible for voting. use an image hosting site such as photobucket or imageshack. Makes maintaining the challenges much easier for the mods.

Any problems PM me buddy.

Thanks

Ok, no problem there. I just hope I can do acceptable work, I've noticed I may be needing new glasses for those pesky details.

Can the finished pics from the Sculpting/Converting challenge be used for this (as I haven't started painting yet) as I want to submit one of the Trolls?

In that case then, here's my proof pic for the challenge, haven't decided which one I will enter yet though. Image
