Thanks Erunion and Pabook :)

There should be Haldir coming soon-ish but I'm not very happy with the pictures so I'll have to find some time to re-shoot them.

And you have every reason to be happy. Red is one of the more difficult colours to get right and you have certainly achieved that, brilliant. I actually think you can go a touch lighter on the very highest point but I wouldn't from the point that I would hate you to spoil anything.

This is by far the best miniature you've produced, very nicely done :D There is some great shadowing, washing and highlighting on that. I especially like the highlighting on the metal and the overall job on the cloak and quiver 8)

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I agree that you pulled off the red really well. Also you are just getting better and better and painting miniatures. Keep it up!

Hey. Great job Sid! The red is blended very well and looks great :yay: I do feel like the gold could use some more highlighting though, but other than that it's very well done, especially the eyes.

My oh my, it's been a very long while since I did one of these...

Here's some things I've been working on:

I really love the theme of Rohan... probably one of my favourite factions to paint.
Also, external flashes are super duper for taking pics of minis at any time of day... I took these pics around 9 PM yesterday... really takes the effort out of mini photography.

As I'm taking part of the backlog reduction oath and I'm due to be getting quite a few more minis this month you'll probably see quite a few more updates over the coming while. :)

Also... 'The white wizard approaches'

C&C welcome as always. Thanks for looking folks :)

Nice to see you back mate, been too long.
Ironically I am painting an eagle right now. I think you could do with some light drybrushing over the feathers to bring out the definition. A thinned dark wash on the white feathers would add depth then a final light coloured drybrushed over the top.
I like your colour scheme though, very nice.

I really like the bald eagle look. It's a nice divergence from the norm and you've painted it well

@Gandlaf: Thanks dude :) I based my eagle off these 2 pics:

ImageImage

So, as there was little differentiation in the reference pics I didn't add it while painting. Also whenever I wash a white coating it always seems to go out of control and the wash dries all funny. One of the things that annoyed me on this project was GW's over-definition of the feathers; I found the ridges and valleys vastly different than the smooth types pictured. Seemingly this model is geared towards easiness for drybrushing (a method of highlighting I do not often favour) rather than what in my opinion would be more accurate which is smoothness. This prevented me from carrying out my original plan of representing the beautiful pattern of the feathers seen in picture 2. :(

@Harfoot: I'm fine thanks mate it's just recently I've been busy with exams and all too preoccupied with PC games so painting has been on the backburner for a long while.

@JamesR: Thanks man. Glad you like it :-D

Thanks for the feedback all

I figured you had based this on a bald eagle which makes it the great alternative scheme you have gone for.
I think the problems you highlight tend to be the difference between reality and the miniature world, with the latter requiring over extenuating reality to help define the definition.
I'm not saying that's right or wrong, just perhaps the way it is.
Your issue with the washes could be just too much paint on the brush. Having just enough to almost dry as the stroke finishes is a way to tackle this.
