Thanks to Baardeend for kickstarting this, but if we're going to do this, let's do it right!

Welcome to the OFFICIAL February Painting Challenge!
This month’s topic is: "Movie Night!"

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Image

Any version of any character depicted in the Extended Edition of The Two Towers can be entered. (e.g. Both Éomer, Marshal of the Riddermark & Éomer, Knight of the Pelennor are acceptable entries.)

1. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature/s you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

2. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of February 29th 2016. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 8 photos of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from front, back and each side which is more than enough. If you would like to compile more than 8 pictures into one file it is ok to do that

Pictures of completed models must be submit using a third party hosting site such as photobucket or imageshack. Pictures submit by attachment will not be eligible for the vote.

3. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

4. With the introduction of The League, Winners from the previous month are now eligible to enter and win consecutive challenges without penalty.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you Erunion for promoting my idea to an official painting challenge! :-D
It has been an honour to act as a hobby challenge Admin for a short time :)
Now it's time to go back to being a participant

My entry is Saruman with his Palantír. I'm trying a couple of new techniques. I'm trying gesso as primer and working from a white base rather than black. It will be a bit of a throwback, too, because Saruman was one of the first LotR models I ever painted. I actually won an invisible Frodo with him in a painting comp!

Hmm, when you say "character" does that mean it has to be someone named? I have some Easterlings I'm doing right now, but obviously they are just bog-standard warriors (although I do have some metal ones I could use to stand out better.)

Quote:
"Did you see Ralph's cameo in The Two Towers?"

"No! What scene was he in?"

"He was that Easterling warrior with all the eye make-up."

"Crazy that he never mentioned it. That Ralph sure is a character."

No, that will be fine. The theme is the movie...Easterlings are in the movie, so you're good to go.

I don't remember too many scenes with Arwen in them, but she was there! I really want to paint up this model that I got the other day.

I'm pretty sure she shows up in Aragorn's half-drowned "vision" and the flashback when he's talking to Éowyn.

That's what I could remember too. I'm excited to paint her up! I'm going to try a new technique that I recently learned on blending colors together.

In case yout can't tell, I'm entering the rohan warrior. I may have to change my entry though, I'm having a hard time with my primer.

Alright I finally made up my mind. I've always loved these models, but never took the time to paint them. Every time I look at them I think of the following quote: “One of the Halflings carries something of great value. Bring them to me alive and unspoiled.” - Saruman, FOTR

The quote is from the wrong movie, but these models are from a quite important scene in TTT:

Good luck to all!

Welcome to the challenge and good luck!

I have not made any progress on Saruman because I've spent all my hobby time the last couple of days stripping some minis for another project. Time to get with it, though.

Hi all,

I'm not completely satisfied with the result, but I simply can't not enter my own preposition for a painting challenge twice... :?

I somehow misplaced the Uruk carrying Merry, so here I only have the uruk with Pippin:

I know the base is ugly. I can't store both my painting and basing supplies on my student's room. But please feel free to give me advice to improve the painting!

Here's my finished entry! I would have loved to spend some more time on this one, but this is about as good as it's going to get before the deadline.

I never got my Gandalf done sadly, but good luck to all the entrants (and any others that show up in the next hour!) :)

I had to change my entry to since I couldn't get the right materials for Arwen. So now I have finished Gollum.

I didn't have the right stuff to do water effects on the base so I have to just submit this.
