Post subject:  Do you think there will be a War of The Ring expansion?
I have always wanted to start playing War of The Ring. My main army, Dwarves, only needs few additions to be of a respectable size. But the thought that the system won't be getting any future support, concerns me. The arrival of the Hobbit range would automatically make the rule book obsolete (not that it's already not).
So I would like to hear peoples opinions and thoughts. Do you think War of The Ring will be given any attention? The major battles in the movies will probably be just two, and the introduction of the 12-models boxes makes such a possibility the more unlikely.
It would be a shame if the system is dropped for it's a great one. :meh: :boo: :gandalf:

I doubt there will be another War of the Ring expansion. That game has already been relegated to Specialist Game status which is essentially a death knell. IMO it was also an Alpha/Beta release of the rules because there were a TON of game imbalances that they had perfect chances to fix but NEVER did.

Of course there will be but it will be included with the second version of the rulebook.

Do I think there will be a second edition of WOTR, my answer would range from: no-not for a while. Though I do hope and yearn for a second edition o be released with the hobbit.

Id say that history will repeat itself and once the hobbit sbg as run its course theyll bring out a new version of WOTR probably called War in Middle Earth or something to be more general.

I think Arboe is right. They won't bring out a WOTR remake as long as the hobbit is popular. Considering thet I'm a fanatic WOTR gamer and have two huge armies.. I'll be hoping it won't take another 4 years before they release a second edition. I fear for the worst tough...

WOTR is the game that first got me started into the Hobby. I sincerely hope they do build on it. The scale is massive. I have a 5,000 point Fallen Realms army. I picked up most of my set before the boxes were halved and the $ increase. I am slowly building my Gondor Force. I hate to be a price whiner, but..., yeah... It's a tough row to hoe now. The pity is that GW seemingly took a lot of time with it. And recently issued another FAQ/Rules for it. So it seems like it is not off the radar. But I agree, SBG will need to run it's course before the delve back into this system. It is unfortunate.

When they upped the cost/reduced the number of the plastic troops I think a lot of people gave up on the system. Imagine trying to talk a new player into spending that kind of cash on an army, only to have it destroyed by Ringwraith cheese.

WotR was flawed in execution but could have been a great mass combat mechanism. I am fiddling with another ruleset on and off to see if it can be made amenable to a better balanced and more playable WotR type combat. But don't expect anything soon - playtesting is slow...

I use wraiths, but I like to ask my opponent if he prefers he battles a different army or has any game "restrictions" that both of us abide too. (kind of like mini tournament rules)

but I don't play tournaments, just games with my friends locally.

I think you can use one wraith, or two of the not-so-very-overpowered ones, but not more unless of course, you houserule.

Well current rumour has it that there will be a Battle of Five Armies expansion for the game in 2014, so here's hoping.

WOTR is a great game, you just have to play the right people. It's not made for competative gaming!

I hope we get rules for the last lot of LOTR releases some day as I would really like to use my Watcher in the Water!!!

BOFA would be amazing as a WOTR game....

I think there is real potential there for 'War of the North' (war of Orcs and Dwarves, BOFA, attacks of the Easterlings etc etc) style gaming.

Most of the core WOTR is pretty solid and balanced. If the only Wraith was a Twilight one, and the only Darkness Caster is the Necromancer, and Saruman is the only ruin caster - then the magic is already a lot more reasonable.

The movie was probably gave u few of us some ideas on how to game it. The only real thing I'd personally struggle to make a list for would be Thranduil's elves. Noldor elves, Orcs of Gundabad, Men of Rhovanion, could be fun. :-)
