<img src="http://www.one-ring.co.uk/alan/or_awards_banner.jpg">

The next season of the One Ring Awards will commence on the 1st of April 2006 and entries will be accepted until April 30th. Voting will commence on the 1st of May and continue until the end of that month with the winners being announced in June.

Once again, there will some great prizes on offer (blister packs etc) for the winners of the Open categories and coins will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in all categories.

Additionally, we will again be awarding a special 'Committee's Choice' prize for one entrant (at least a boxed set of Easterlings, maybe more).

And a huge 'thank you' goes to Ebob Miniatures for their continuing support of these awards. Visit his site here: http://www.ebobminiatures.com

I was just wondering if there would be any WH or 40K catagories? I know this is a LotR site but i also know many of its members play WH or 40K.

Definitely "no"!
As you said yourself, this is a LotR community and there's no need for such a competition within our system. There are lots of other opportunities for Warhammer and 40K players looking for a good competition. In the end, you don't ask for a football competition on a tennis tournement just because many others play it, right?

so can we enter dioramas and minis and all that stuff? :)

Yes Bilbo you can enter Diorama's and mini's providing they are LoTR based.

A full list of the Categories can be found > Here <

And at the bottom of >Here< you can see a list of the Past Winners so you can see what you are up against.

Post subject:  How do we enter?

Having read through the FAQ's, I'm still not sure how we enter?

When the competitions start (1st April), there will be a Submit Entry button displayed that enables you to, well, submit an entry. Its not showing yet because the competition hasn't started yet.

Thank you for clearing that up.

I just noticed the thread in this forum with information about the competition. I hadn't noticed before since I was redirected to this forum directly from the One Ring Awards page. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I've since found the entries section for scenarios, but it is sort of buried in the Library section and there is no recipricol link to the One Ring Awards section.

I think I'll take a little more time to read through more of the post :?

Again thank you.

Hey, hey, hey! - go easy with throwing that "oldie" term around - some of us can get upset by you youngsters

Now! - just to admit how slow the old brain and eyes are - a couple of dumb questions

Yes - I did follow the links thankfully provided by NoW - AND read them

Assuming I can beg, borrow or steal a digital - I would like to enter

The only trouble is that the only mini that I consider anywhere near "finished" is from several months ago before I got caught by the "Obsession" of collecting - I would consider it a "beginner" category - hopefully my techniques are improving after reading some of the excellent articles here and my current paintings hopefully are improving

Is this a reasonable assessment of category?

Next dumb question

I am not all that sure as to what constitutes a Diorama - I love all the efforts put forward by others but am not sure if the rules are meant to indicate that a particular model or models have to be actually dedicated to that diorama scene

As an example - I have a Balrog (when I get around to assembling it) - but I would find great difficulty in dedicating it to a scene such as DurinsBanes excellent feature - I would prefer to keep it as a "playable" unit - does this mean that I cannot create a "temporary scene" using the Balrog - but keeping it a playable piece that can be removed from the Diorama?

A 'beginner' would be classed as only been in the hobby for 0-12 months.
(apologies, maybe we need to stipulate this in the rules).

As for entering a diorama with 'removable' figures, thats absolutely fine Oldie !

!

i might be a bit fussie here but IMO i think that is a bit unfair, well it is fair but just hear me out. i myself have been playing the game since the begging of BGIME but recently i want to get my minis as good as possible. i used to just put one coat of paint on and that would do, no high lights, eyes, ect. but recently for about 8 months i have tryed all the techniques like layering and blending, ect. so would this mean i am still a 'expert' or do i class as a begginer?

thanks

fatty-bolger - please note this is only my personal opinion not that of the committee but I would say the strength of the awards is that you might enter beginner for say sculpting but open for terrain and painting minis. Not many of us are brilliant all-rounders in all aspects of the hobby.

I have said as much in the private committee forum as a response to
Brians reply. In the end I think Alan and Brian have the final say on this, I think that's what it says in the rules, but stipulating an absolute timescale for all these categories seems unrealistic in my eyes.

For me the answer is look at the work of other members as a benchmark and choose the appropriate category, we will move from beginner to open if appropriate, but not the other way around so to have a good chance of winning choose the appropriate category carefully.

For people who think they are intermediate, I don't think we will ever create an in-between grade so you will just have to get better and better.
Despite all the voting the committee still have the chance of awarding the Committee choice award to who they see fit so you are always in with a chance even if you are always in the middle of the pack.
