Managed to get some base paint down on the gatehouse, actually glued some pieces together on it so no turning back on the design!

Did some press mold of the roof to add the roofing on the sides, need to greenstuff the edges and put on the corner shingles.

Slowly getting there but I'm getting to the point where I can just paint.

Just pulled out my dwarves and goblins this weekend for fun - defending the tomb:

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Roman Battle Company

A question elsewhere on the board talked about using SBG rules in a historical setting - which led me to think about trying to adapt historical factions into the Battle Company realm.

A Roman Battle Company? Working their way up to Optio?

Of course I had to do some pictures.

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Gondor Outpost preview

Had a couple of warm days so I was able to make a mold and do some castings on my upcoming project.

Cut the scenic battlements off of the Osgiliath ruins and made a mold of them, made a casting of them and a couple castings of Hirst Arts mold #93, Egyptian Tower mold, and played around with them this afternoon.

This is an idea of what I want a corner to look like, still need to decide on height, length, etc. Just wanted to see if what I imagined would look like and to get an idea of how many castings I would have to make and how they fit together.

Still planing in my head the layout.

That looks very promising so far! What did you make the mould for the Osgiliath bits from?

My go to for molds of that size is Smooth-On OOMOO 30 https://www.smooth-on.com/products/oomoo-30/

I like it as it is easy to use and is a straight 50-50 mix.

The Osgiliath bits were tricky, should have made the ends straight since I knew I would be cutting them vs keeping the edges - they keep breaking off in the mold.

If there is an interest I could put a how mapper does molds in the terrain section.

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Nazgul of Dol Guldur

Took advantage of when Forgeworld had their free shipping (my wife feels they took advantage of me) and bought the Nine Nazgul of Dol Guldur and the Lake Town figures. Kinda spent my hobby money for awhile but felt it was worth it.

Helped having the 360 views on the forgeworld website putting the nazgul together, flash was very minimal and only had to use hot water to straighten the swords.

Hope to put the primer on in the next few days but then will have to wait to paint until after vacation.

No wonder Bain has that look on his face!

Just curious, has anyone split the faces of Bard's children at the jawline to close their mouths? At the price I paid for them I'm rather hesitant to try it.

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Nazgul of Dol Guldur

Got a light coat of primer on them, had to put them on the Dol Guldur display from WETA. This is just the Colonnade portion from WETA, works well just to display them. Really need to finish the Necromancer and paint them now - will have to wait for another week though.

Looks more Dol Guldurish in greyscale :)

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Dol Guldur/Ravenhill

May was a wasted month, hobby wise, and June isn't starting out any better.

Helping several family members move, the only painting done is to ceilings and walls, very hard to get any hobby time in.

Gandalf remains unpainted, nazgul primed but unpainted, laketown houses waiting for drybrushing, weathering.

In the few hours I have available, the light isn't good to paint in but I can manage some terrain work.

Cut up some osgiliath ruin parts, casted some floor pieces, threw in some warhammer bits and made this. Not sure what I will do with it, just something to keep me busy.

No new forgeworld misty mountain mercenaries so put some moria goblins on it.

By the time I can afford forgeworld again, this guy might be painted to lead them on.

I really like this piece and the idea of cutting up the ruins set. It looks like it's fallen out of the outskirts of Dol-Guldur.

Thanks infinateremains, the ruins set can be rearranged in many ways if one is willing to take a saw or x-acto blade to it. Helps to hold pieces together in different ways first to help visualize the end result.

Excellent stuff - Where is the Last Alliance horn from?

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Couple of horn blowers

The horn is a Roman cornu from an old wargames factory spruce I had. Warlordgames sells Roman command spruces that has something similar.

Those Last Alliance Spearmen look great - where did you get the spears from ? And was it an easy conversion ? Just chopped of the sword and cut and lowered the arms, correct ?

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Couple of horn blowers

JA33 - look at the previous page, I showed how I did them. Could probably get the arms/hands position better if I did it again. Looking at the pictures again I wonder if I should have turned the head somewhat or just angled the arms better.

Very nice conversions with those elves. You're getting a lot of variety out of what amounts to a single fairly static scuplt. Terrain work is great as well.
