Lovely work.

The amount of detail you've put into this is amazing!

'All I've done is a staircase  ' says he!
That is superb work. That archway is just soooo dwarfy I could eat it!

Thank you! I am trying to implement it as realistic as possible

since I've posted the latest advances only on FB here now a major update with some text about the recent activities:

first the new archway:
I thought the board also needs a few tunnels! and since I had a sketch for a truly beautiful and impressive goal I wanted to make it happen. Unfortunately I had to make it a little smaller because the tunnel entrance was already finished and I have addressed to it

Image
Image

Next, the "grand staircase":
the board is at the end of three levels which are best connected via the many stairs, but of course you need also THE stairs :)
So I got the middle level divided with a huge staircase in the middle. an eye-catcher, I find.
flanked by 10 pillars standing on wider layers, ending in a gate that leads to a hall.

Image
Image
Image

the gate itself is also inspired by an Alan Lee sketch:

Finally, shortly to the finished tunnels:
I wanted no tunnels with raw rock but a living tunnel of the dwarves. cleanly finished walls and decorated.

Image
Image
Image

the tunnel ends in a direction indicated bridge. the bridge pier I modeled after the aqueduct at the west gate

i hope you like it :)

What size table are you putting this on? Or will it be in pieces that you will swap out as the battle progresses? Excellent work!

it will be a standard game board with 120 * 180 cm

All that on a standard table? I especially like how you have expanded the theme by building down the side of the table. You inspire me to step up my game (improve my skills)

I am really enjoying this thread. I think you have captured the movie dwarven look perfectly.

I hope Gimli's not afraid of heights!

@GreatKhanArtist: me too:D

on we go !

after I had finished dragons grave there was a problem. I've imagined it looks good when 6 staircases leading from the 12 square court. But as the grand staircase was finished a turn has become a dead end.
Fortunately, a friend was visiting. I showed him the problem and he has said construction a door. best idea ever

before
Image

after
Image

the underside of the large archway at the beginning of the main staircase has a roof now so that the arc itself dosn't stand so lost
Image

I thought if I got tunnels I also need a room underground. The working title is guardroom / wrought
Image
but could also be a dwarfish brothel in this light
Image

dbecause the studs are done is already the ceiling or better the ground for the Great Hall established. The first impression looks quite good: D

Very awesome. I would love to achieve something like that for a dwarven hall.

Post subject:  Re: Khazad-Dum WIP

Very impressive. I'm guessing that the roof will be removable to allow for gaming inside the lower levels?

Post subject:  Re: Khazad-Dum WIP

there is news!

Here's the current states of the board: D

the great mystery was how I board stocked or transported. Well, the backbone is a wooden box on which is built the upper stage (great hall), in the middle you can take off the midsection with a rail and the lower stage then you pull out and put it forward again to it. then it looks something like this

Image

the box itself I did not want to be so empty and I tried tp integrate it in the big picture. therefor I've dressed the edges with "pillars". is also a good edge protection if you should bump into something during the transport .....

Image
Image

As a result, the problem arises that you can see into the side when the mean level is extended. for this I have made covers

so that it does not act so empty I got me some help with the old rule book

Image
Image

In addition, I am attempted something in piracy and recreated a location from the film

Image
Image
Image

on the last picture you can well recognize the painted stone effect. I just in the form of carved styrofoam with a thin layer of painted putty. and to this dry base layer a second, thicker filler dabbed. the result is very good

Image
Image

the rock at the bridge and the opening in the tunnel

Image
Image
Image

there has also been a lot of development in the stairs. I wanted it to be very twisty and I think that i got that very well

Image
Image

aAlso, I've actually made a few minor pillars, of which I still do not know where to indulge them actually :D
Image
Image

the large entrance portal is finally finished

Image

and of course, the pillars of the Great Hall:

This is simply stunning..!

But in a very good way!

I find it hard to visualise how precisely every hall and corridor is connected, where the staircases lead to.. Precisely what you want to capture of course!

I would love to be able to walk around in those halls and explore them, you did a mighty fine job so far! :yay: Can't wait to see this progress.

To say this project is jaw dropping would be something of an understatement, simply incredible and I look forward to the future updates :yay:

How I haven't seen this post before puzzles me, but that is one very, very impressive Khazad-dum!
Can't wait to see how you complete it eventually!
Keep up the great work :)
