Another month in which my main painting progress is competition related - always a great way to reduce the backlog and paint up some things that otherwise wouldn't have gotten done.

Second time I painted this specific Radagast, wished I had the other one nearby for comparison.. it'll look atrocious for sure, what with it being painted a decade ago or so. Great design and thankfully without the bird excrement of the movie version. Added a little hedgehog from Reaper to the base.

Somehow felt strange this is the first time I painted an Arwen, given how large a role she plays in the movies at least. Rather enjoyed the sculpt, may have to get the foot/mounted pack at some point (this one was seperate off ebay) which then leaves another infantry version for an alternative colour scheme. Particularly happy with the dark hair.

Beautiful as always, especially the Arwen. I think the blue came out particularly well.

Also, still can't get over the specters you painted a while ago. They look fantastic, especially with the mist rising from the bases.

Beautiful work on these minis, you've captured Arwen very well.

Both very well done :yay: You did a good job with the blending, it's all very smooth. Good job!

Thanks all!

More mist this time: a Twilight Witch-king I've had for way too long.. about time he got some paint slapped on. Added a multitude of thin grey stripes for a washed out appearance, rather happy with how that turned out. Altered the crown as I didn't have the side bits, so cut the front and back in half and added them instead.

Another month where my main Middle-earth painting was competition related, about time I get back to my Mirkwood now.

Beautiful painting! The colours fit perfectly and make him seem ethereal. :yay:

It's a wonderful bit of work. The robes in particular are excellent, and the mist gives him a great otherworldly feel.

Very nicely done, the cloak in particular makes the model stand out. But it is a muted enough colour not to make it feel too alive.

Cheers all.

Got the previously previewed batch of Mirkwoodians painted up, nearly completing the collection (while typing this, I remembered having one 1 more plastic Guard left who should become a Captain at some point). Tempted by the new Thranduil as well...

All of 'em

Image

The banner bearer. The banner is magnetised at the bottom and snuggly fits between the arm and body (a bit too much so after applying paint and varnish...): stable, but easily removed for transport or if simply not used in the game.

Image

Close-ups of the banner - difficult to photograph well with the folds and shiney paint! One of the very few instances where I've actually painted a gem, something normally too gimmicky to my tastes, given the sheer size or impractibility of some (e.g. as a massive shield boss). The top banner I envision as the generic Mirkwood banner; the script reads 'Eryn' (as in Eryn Galen, 'Greenwood the Great' - Eryn simply means forest). The lower banner would be the addition for Thranduil's regiment (carried by a Palace Guard here of course), with the 'Th' rune to indicate it.

Should say I didn't spend too much time on it, not sure if the shading and banner material in general (paper with wood glue, additional layers of varnish to toughen it) would work out. Turned out better than expected, so now wished the freehand was a bit tidier!

Close-up of a banner bearer without banner and another Guard

Two converted regular warriors (swapping the arms of both poses). I like the aggressive stance of the one on the left, while the other one is supposed to appear blocking an enemy blow (as the glaives can shield).

And for good measure, the final Ranger

My thanks.

With the actual models coming up soonish, decided to finally get my own Goblin mercenary painted up.

And finished the conversion of another one (sort of, just making them into less scantly clad critters). Dressing up goblins is a bit odd, but probably better than undressing them...

I really like the mercs. What models did you start with? I'm guessing goblin town goblins?

Aye, not a fan of either the nakedness or hugely deformed nature of them, so I'm taking the relatively normal looking parts of various sculpts, then sculpt on clothes, chainmail, leather armour and/or fur. Shield is from the North Star (Frostgrave) Gnolls I think.

I now asking myself why I haven't thought of greenstuffing like this to create Prowlers with bows??

Love the Goblin Mercenarys, definitely better dressed!

Nice work on the mercs, I like the dark skin tone you've gone for.

Really good idea with the goblins. I've always had mixed feelings about the cartoonish deformities, and this is a great way to hide them. But this is also an excellent source of dollies for more properly proportioned goblins with the stoop and long arms they're "supposed" to have.
