Sculpting that shield would have been horrible for sure. Mould was a tad rough though, so I might get a better one later on (this one isn't stuck on, but the handle so closely matches the hand that it stays on fairly well by itself). Anywho - he's painted now. |

Beautiful! Painted is very well done, and the conversion is great! So much better than the original. Especially the beard makes him way more characterful, I find. Excellent! |

I really like what you did with Théodred. The shield and beard suit him well |

Somewhat forgot I got these Middle-earth figures painted up some weeks ago: Paladin II Took Dead Marsh Spectres |

Beautiful painting, as always! Paladin's coat is very nice and detailed, and his face looks really old indeed. Great job! The Spectres are also great. Really digging the face colours. This way, they look more like zombies than actual spirits, which is great. |

Always depressing, having to dig one's thread from beyond the first page! Not even for much of an update, but rather a glimpse of things to come. For after not playing much in the past years (nor indeed painting too much), it looks like I'll finally attend a tournament - in less than two weeks! That also means I'll finally paint up the Mirkwood force which has sat here collecting dust ever since the models were purchased on release (over two years ago). Not the longest miniatures have had to wait for paint really, but there have been many plans over the course of those years to get them painted up; they just never materialised. Let's see how I'll get on this time! The list to get done is (based on what I happen to have around more than what would be competitive, although it isn't necessarily terrible): Thranduil 1 Palace Guard (shield) 5 Palace Guard (shield, spear) 2 Mirkwood Elves (glaive) 2 Mirkwood Cavalry (shield) Tauriel 9 Mirkwood Rangers Legolas (cloak, armour) 8 Wood Elves (spear) 4 Wood Elves (bow) Of those, 4 Wood Elves and 1 Ranger were painted, while Thranduil and Tauriel were near enough done. A few others had some flat base colours applied, but that's it. Things are proceeding according to the plans well enough - had three weeks to paint three warbands; now less than two to paint less than two. Crucially, I have (I hope) covered all the finecast bubbles and plugged the gaps, on top of which I somehow took the time to string all the Rangers' bows; the only further preparation to do is casting some shields for the Guard and Cavalry. Finished painting Lego and his warband today; pictures soon. Here are the (mostly) unpainted bands a few days ago. Will they all be fully done in two weeks? Place your bets now! |

Very curious to see how this turns out. Good to see you have another reason to reduce your backlog! |

Apparently, additional motivation is indeed required.. good thing I found some! Here's the first group. Ended up better than I had expected the 'orrible old plastics to do - much nicer than the ones I painted years ago using just some washes. Leggie painted alongside them with ever so slightly more attention - terrific sculpt that probably deserves more, but he ended up decent anyway. Group shot - bases will be done for the full force at the end Legolas Close-ups of some (granted, some others look less good as they were repaints) Churning out some shields for Palace Guard and the Cavalry, making some spares to possibly add to the glaive armed troops as well |

I just went through this whole thread, great work. I love all the little conversions that will set your army apart- I'm going to be stealing your idea Theodred! |

Those Elves look great, which is all the more impressive knowing how some of those sculpts look. |

Thanks all! Terrific comments like that are all that motivates me to keep going. Well, that and tournament deadlines - and I did end up finishing before the last one! Didn't have time for updates in the meantime, simply because I spent most of the daylight periods frantically painting... Here's the full force: Warband 1: Tauriel and Rangers Warband 2: Thranduil and guard Warband 3: Legolas and the less impressive sculpts Bunch of close-ups! Legolas. Again. Two of the aesthetically less pleasing models Thranduil (mostly painted some time ago, just finished the swords and rings I believe) Two Palace Guard One of the glaive-Elves Cavalry. Wish I had more; don't wish to clean up more of them though. Might force myself to do so when a new mounted Thranduil is released to at least give him 4 accompanying knights. Tauriel. Shown and painted before, but I redid parts of her face and the hair - not entirely happy with the former, but an improvement regardless. Some Rangers And finally, some upcoming figures - with these done, I could field 800pts. |

Gorgeous! All of them are painted beautifully! Also seems like a very nice and cohesive force, even though there's a mix of armoured and unarmoured warriors. |

Hello Coenus, That really is a very cool force and as Koen said very cohesive. What I particularly love is the design of the banner you made, it looks very elvish. Where did you get the plastic bit on the top from? Cheers, Bennet |

Cheers guys, will get some better individual pics of a few in the future. In the meantime, I painted up little Dwarf Flói - that right page is supposed to be a simplified version of the one depicting the Balrog in Saruman's tome. Tricky to paint, even more difficult to photograph as it turned out! Son of Fundin wrote: What I particularly love is the design of the banner you made, it looks very elvish. Where did you get the plastic bit on the top from? Happened across it by chance when looking for something completely different in my bits box, so you can imagine I was quite happy with the find, as it does indeed fit wonderfully well. You are actually right in saying it looks Elvish, for it is - part of the headgear for a Warhammer Wood Elf hero (now called Nomad Prince, used to be Araloth).

That is a lovely force of elves you've got! I'm not particularly fond of any of the new sculpts but your painting is excellent. I think Legolas is my favorite of the force. Floi looks good too, I like the details you added to the book. Good job! -PoW |

Lovely greens on the old LotR Wood Elves and on Legolas. I like how old, Floi feels, the color choice and your version of his dwarf armor. Couldn't help keep staring at him. Very much different than mine, I'll be finishing the bases of all my dwarf heroes soon, so you may have the chance to check them out. |
