I think this might quite possibly be the best paint job on the face of this particular model that I have seen so far. Incredible.

The ring stands out much better too.

That's an extremely nice thing to say, I'm flattered. In fact I've adopted your method for eyes, with a slight adaptation (I call it the adam ant method). I was always against the fetishization of eyes, but I seem to have struck on a way that doesn't make them a distraction.

Oh you're all too kind. Thanks!

I said a while ago that I would like to get into commission painting, I think I'm starting to get to that level. I'm thinking maybe come the summer I may set something up. Any advice from anyone involved? Am I ready? PM if necessary, as it's not the remit of this thread really.

Great work Gene, you are certainly not going to regret stripping him and repainting!

So annoyed at myself, I accidentally deleted the proof pic of my magnum opus Bilbo. Trying to get this one done in time now for the competition. The one on the left here is the model I've stripped and re-painted (the one on the right was done about 18 months ago - something of a turning point, but I digress)

and here is the result of this afternoon. Spent way too long on the eyes. which still don't look 100%.

Nearly finished. Not too sure about this one. Artificial light here isn't that great. Experimented with different shades but nothing worked except darkening the main colours with umber. Not too mad on the emeraldish tones on the breast, but there were lots of olives and dull greens in the model overall that the hair (mostly olive colour) was getting lost. Anyway, gave some freehand detail a go. Still some way to go with that, but I'm not going to do more on this. Spent most of the time correcting mistakes.

really nice work Gene. I was never happy with my Legolas and you may just have inspired me to go back and redo him.

The skin is looking fantastic. I am not sure all the colors jive well with each other but I can tell you are not done with them yet anyway. Going great.

I agree. It's just not sitting well, not enough complimentary colours. Though I did try a few things, nothing worked so
I played it safe. I'll see how it looks in daylight. Thanks fir the compliments everyone, and criticism.

Looks a bit better in daylight. Still not happy with the breast portion, but I'll leave it for now. Don't have time to change it anyway. Just a few spot highlights to go. Better do some homework on colour theory in green before I go near my mirkwood rangers. C&C very much welcome.
