I love those bases here did you get them?

Thanks mate :) I cut up one of the Goblin Town ramps and used them for moulds so I could produce bases for all my EFGT set without losing all the scenery to being cut up.

The red/pink is very dominant at the moment, can't wait to see how they look when the hair is finished as I think that will change the look dramatically. Looking great though, keep it up.

Post subject:  Re: GD's WIP: Osgiliath Board 20/04

My girlfriend and I begun work on an Osgiliath board for display. It was good fun to have her helping me and joining in on the hobby. First I had put together a few Ruins of Osgiliath Plastics while she worked out the general layout. A resin fountain from zitredes and some old Fellowship ruins also came in handy. A foam dome and ruins will be added inside the Fellowship ruins to make it look like a destroyed tower.

We both began gluing the sand base but to my dismay she was far better at it than I was! It was pretty upsetting haha but I asked if she could do all of it. Once that was done we spray painted a grey undercoat. I'll be doing the same for the buildings when it's painting time for them.

I filled the board with some of the combatants but there is plenty more still boxed, I'm not sure if they'll all fit!

Any tips are welcome as this is my first major terrain piece.

If my wife wanted to help with my models, I would faint.

How about using card to make some paving? You could have sand overlapping the edges and perhaps a bit of rubble strewn around.

She loves art and would probably paint better than me if she practiced but I can't have that happen lol. The area that's marked out for a path will have green stuff stone from a mould. I think you're right Ill need to add some rubble all around but what to use?

You have lots of different options. I would go for plaster blocks (cheapest), miliput or gs.

How about some insulation board for the rubble cut into blocks and scattered abou, you could then chop them up a bit to add some wear and tear.

Here's some of the work I've been doing for a White Council diorama, I've had a lot of help from a number of posters on the forum as I am relatively knew to scenery building. The response to my request for help was amazing and I am thankful to be apart of such an awesome community.

So far I've cut out most of the templates, just waiting on a different knife for the arches as I tried one with the Stanley knife and it didn't get the desired result.

My Hirst Art moulds arrived also for the columns, I'm just waiting on the same order stated above for the plaster. I had never seen what the moulds looked like and I got to say they're pretty cool, and so tiny!

Post subject:  Re: GD's WIP: Battle of the Five Armies, 3 nearly assembled!

Hey everyone, hope you've all had a great holiday period. I've been busy collecting over the holidays for my plan for this year. A complete battle of the five armies display board including Erebor, Dale and Raven Hill.

I've decided to work on the miniatures first and the board/scenery later on once the extended dvd is released so I can get a more movie accurate terrain board.

So I'll run through 3 of the five armies being Elves, Dwarves and Men. My other 2 armies will be Dol Guldur (Dol Guldur orcs + orcs on foot) and then Gundabad (Fell wargs & Orcs on Fell wargs). I will also have 4 eagles and Beorn.

First up is my Elf army, I've included 6 Palace Guard to add some slight variation and to signify Thranduil bringing his personal bodyguard to the battle. I've already ordered another pack of spearmen and hoping to order one more of swordsmen and I think that should be enough although the Elf army was quite large in the movie so may add another pack of archers down the line. This army should number in the 40-50 bracket

Image

Next up is my Dwarves, I have 6 more Grimhammers to assemble then got my fingers crossed for Dain and probably 3 clampacks of each Ironfoot variant if they do get released. This army will again be around the 40-50 mark.

Image

Here's my completed force of Men, I'm quite happy with the number and variations I chose with this lot. I used 2 packs of each militia variant but thought a rag tag army won't be looking too ragtag if they nearly all look the same, it works nicely for Elves but not in this case.

With that in mind I decided to use Lake town armour swords and bows as former guards may have escaped Lake Town with their gear. I also decided to use some Men of Dale, the theory behind this was the best soldiers left were given full access to what was left of the Dale ruins armory.

Very cool indeed it's nice to see someone with the same hobby resolution that I have. Although you're a bit further on the armies i got 33 mirkwood elves, 4 members of thorins company, 12 lake-town militia and 6 lake-town guards. How much gundabad orcs are you planning to get? Annyway I'm looking forward to your progress on this!

Best of luck with it!

Post subject:  Re: GD's WIP: Battle of the Five Armies, 3 nearly assembled!

Thanks for the well wishes Ridgeback, I'll be doing my best with this project to actually finish something for once.

Thanks WOTN, the main reason for my quick collection of armies is my worry with how long miniatures will be available for. At the moment I have only 13 Gundabad orcs due to them not being available on the Australian Games Workshop website for the last 3 months of periodic checking, I am hoping to have roughly 25 Gundabad Orcs if they come back up. So far for my evil army I have the following awaiting assembly:

Azog (botfa version)
Bolg
13 Gundabad Orcs
36 Hunter Orcs
12 Hunter Orcs on fell wargs
12 Fell wargs
10 Morannon Orcs with which I have moulded the Gundabad Orc shields for, so they look the part

I've got my fingers crossed for some evil releases to bulk out my evil army if there is none my plan will be to stock up on more Gundabad Orcs, Morannon Orcs, Goblin town goblins and plastic trolls to get the armies number up to 140-170

What are your plans with your BOTFA armies?

Post subject:  Re: GD's WIP: Battle of the Five Armies, 3 nearly assembled!

My current aim is to get around 50 armoured mirkwood/800 points elves with new thranduil on Elk and Legolas , 120 gundabad orcs atleast currently I'm at six lol lots of trolls, 30 fell wargs and Azog and Bolg ofcourse, for lake-town 180 points laketown guardsman and Alfrid and 300 points militia and Bard, 2 eagles radgast on eagle Gwaihir, Beorn and the new tauriel. Thorins armoured company and Gandalf. For the IronHills i'm not sure how much dwarves there will be atleast around the 500-600 points. That's pretty much it for evil there still needs to be released a lot and for the amount of bats etc im not certain.

Sounds awesome mate, I guess we're both sweating on evil releases! If they come I'll be pre-ordering on bulk not going to risk any 'temporarily out of stock' again.
