Hi guys,

I'm looking to add another string to my bow, and improve my online credentials a little, so I have started looking into my own commission painting service, Studio gaarew (funnily enough).

http://www.studiogaarew.co.uk

The mission is simple; Gaming armies, by gamers, for gamers. :-D

The site is still under construction at the moment, I still have to sort out a better, expanded gallery and pricing scheme, but the foundations are all in place.

So, I'd appreciate any constructive criticism you have to offer. I'd also really appreciate any business you care to throw my way  and am sure I can sort out an additional discount for all you very kind One-Ringers out there.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, or receiving your orders.

Cheers,

John

(Thanks to Alan for allowing me to post this here)

Your painting skill seems amazing, but the prices is a little high for my taste. The only advice I can truly give is to chenge the colour scheme of the site. All that black and red makes it look like a pornsite, not that I have any problem with that.

Cheers man.

I really have no idea about how to set pricing, so I looked at some prominent painting sites that seem to rather popular, and unashamedly borrowed from that. To be fair though, I wouldn't feel comfortable going down their route and charging that for what appears to be a basic clean-up and dip job.

If anyone has any suggestions to a more practical pricing scheme, I'm all ears, providing it would still be worth my time to paint.

As for the colour scheme... I'll try and get some neon pink XXX'x up there. :-D

Cheers,

John

The easiest way I do the pricing is the simply charge the cost of the models as the fee. So standard troopers will get you more value, but wont have the love a character would get for the price you pay compared to the character price.

Also I'm a web design student if you need any help website wise :)

I agree about the black and red, its not to visually appealing and a little hard on the eyes. Other than that I think the prices are fine, they are within the range than most people charge so I dont think you have to change them. You might considering offering discounts on larger orders, say as an eg. 5% on anything over 30 minis, 10% off anything over 60 just to increase incentive for getting alot of minis at once if that is what you are after. Also think about offering discounts to repeat customers. Other than that goodluck!

The black and red must be really hard on the eyes. There is a discount scheme there already for up to 25% off.

Cheers,

John

Hey Guys,

I've changed the backdrop to be a little less 'Boom-chikka-wah-wah' the black and red is still there as it ties in with my avatar/logo, and I've added an Announcements and Sale page. I'm thinking about putting up a few Warmachine Battle Box sets (including a discount) and maybe some 3 ups for sale, and if anyone would like to see anything else, just let me know.

Cheers,

John

Just to let you guys know that I was at the Mantic Open Day yesterday, and picked up the top spot for Single Foot Model, Single Mounted Model, and the Overall Best of Show Award.

Just gotta get some good pictures of my entries up on the site.

im going to give you some simple free advice if your intending to make money from this site you must employ a web designer im sorry to say the website is not up to a good enough standard to make someone part with their cash for services at the moment your profits will come from a close circle ie family friends etc people who know you. using students is a great way and cheap way of doing this i run 9 site and all of them where designed by a student who was eager to improve their portfolio and actually be able to implement their skills in the real world. once you have sorted the presentation of the site out and the way it operates then you can seriously start to think about upping your game and focus on marketing your site and services. i work in the modeling industry as well as free lance in marketing so i do know what im talking about and presentation is everything if you would like some help on ways to improve your site let me know although i can only offer input into the presentation but that said i can hook you up with a fantastic website designer who is very well priced and under cute ever other offer i had received and now get all my work.

I must second this. Your painting skills are superb 8) but the site is not up to par with your ability as a painter. In my experience white background with blue/black text is easiest on the eyes and more professional looking.

Good luck with your new business! We all always need more models and you must make money to spend money. ;)
