Post subject:  painting legolas

hey guys, i'm preparing my legolas for the competition, I guess, i'm assuming, :P

I'm just going through which colors I should use,

Mainly, i'm having trouble finding some good recipes for painting Green, a color which I don't have much experience in.

Also, I know that the cape and the tunic are painted in different tones of green,

After looking at pictures of legolas, it appears that the cape is the darker shade,

So, what paint recipes did you guys use for these two shades of green?

thanks

I use grey (the darkest grey foundation paint, fading up to codex grey) for elven cloaks and catachan green (highlighted with a mix of catachan with bleached bone, fading up to pure bleach) for normal,

As with any colour there are many ways of painting green which all depend on the look you are hoping to achieve. For Legolas I would probably mix in a little brown to give an earthy, woodland appearance and maybe a little grey as don't want the green to be too vibrant. Dark Red + green will give an excellent shading colour working in umber or black for the deepest shadows. For the highlights mix either a light grey, yellow or off white.

I would work out in advance how many different green tones you need and test how they fit together on a white piece of paper before you being proper.

And good luck with your entry!

For the tunic on my Legolas I paint it dark angels green, then wash it with badab black, layer it again with dark angels green, then add small amounts of snot green to the dark angels green and I keep doing this until I get the shade I want. It works quite well.
