Yes. Unless you must have her right now there will be much better alternatives.

A local store still has those on the shelf here. They are trying to sell them for about 30 pound and i'm pretty sure its the same box been sitting there since they were released. Maybe 5 years or so now?

Interesting that the seller's ebay name is cooper101283, and we have a OR member called cooper101183... any link? :)

Seems like there's a new ebay tactic sellers use... they create a fake account and outbid the hell out of your max bid. Then after you lose the auction they offer a second chance. This is just my speculation but it's happened 3 times to me now.

try to see how much feedback the person outbidding you has, if it's really low or none then maybe that is the case, although people new to e-bay will pay alot more for minis because they keep bidding without really knowing the value of the item.

if the item is new, the seller might have duplicates available will offer the extras as second chance.

Post subject:  Re: Ebay watch.

The bidding is private. It has happened to me with two different sellers. And I didn't take their 2nd chance offer it was like £25 for dalamyr. I get that he is rare but I'm not willing to dish out that much money when I can get a small plastic army instead.

Post subject:  Re: Ebay watch.

This isn't a new tactic. I had this happen to me about 8 years ago when buying a couple of box sets: attack on weathertop, and escape from Orthanc, which were new and sealed.

I was suspicious of the bidding activity on these and checked out the accounts and bidding activity. It was a bit more obvious to see how was bidding against you in those days.

It was clear it was 'shill bidding' as the technical term is. I reported it to eBay. The complaint was upheld, the listings deleted, and user reprimanded.

He had the nerve to contact me, tell me someone had complained (as eBay didn't reveal who had made the complaint) and removed his listings (as he had done this on a total of 5 auctions at once) and ask if I still wanted to buy privately!

Which is the other caveat. Ocasionally a seller often with a rating below 10 or even 3, will contact with a sob story about the paypal linked to ebay not working and can you pay by another means. They then will not send the item and of course you have no comeback. This happened to me once with 2 Metal ents I was trying to purchase, and similarly for a friend trying to buy some metal uruk-hai, though he was forewarned and reported the seller.

Basically, caveat emptor! Be wary of people with low ratings and out of eBay deals. If you do break eBay rules you will have no comeback through official eBay procedures. Use the tools eBay provides like checking people's ratings, and the bid history on an item. If you are bidding on an item and the person beating you on every one from a particular seller ONLY bids with that seller... then it MAY be that some shill bidding is happening.

If in doubt, and have good grounds, report. Don't let people get away with shill bidding.

Post subject:  Re: Ebay watch.

Good advice there bro. Yep shill bidding is the term. Alarm bells rang in my head coz the seller offered me second chance offer on 2 items. Hah. The price just wasn't fair. I'll just wait until a better deal comes along.

I think so long as you pay via paypal you're protected. I would not use any other payment method anyway.

Ebay is the best place to find minis but you do get the occasional troll (haha)
