Post subject:  Amon Hen

I was sitting around, and I thought about writing an Amon Hen scenario.
As such, the Participants are these.

GOOD
Frodo with The Mithril Coat, Sting, Elven Cloak
Sam with Elven Cloak
Merry with Elven Cloak
Pippin with Elven Cloak
Boromir with Elven Cloak
Aragorn with Armour and bow with Elven Cloak
Legolas with Armour with Elven Cloak
Gimli with Elven Cloak

EVIL
Lurtz
2 Uruk-Hai Cptains with Shield
Sharku
5 Warg Riders
15 Uruk-Hai scouts with bows
38 Uruk-Hai with Shield

I was thinking something like the fellowship deploy all spread out, and the Uruk-Hai along one board edge. The Hobbits work in a special way. They are all spare bases, and only the good player knows which is which. The Evil player has to capture two of these 'bases' and take them off the Evil sides starting board edge, without losing more than 75% of their force. The Good player then reveals which Halfings the Evil side has captured. If they have captured Frodo, then they win. If the capture any other combination, then it is a draw. if Frodo makes it of a difficult-to-achieve board edge, Good wins. that is all so far.

It's good, I like the part with the bases. But the only thing is the warg riders. Amon-Hen is very difficult so it'd kinda be pointless bringing cavalry in and all that :?
Anyway sounds good

lol hello,

thats good and all i did that amon-hen its good. but the wargs were poor and i got rid of them, but i added 10 more uruk-hai with shields and 4 more with bow it gave the game a quicker edge to it. and the biggest thing is the bases thing i loved helped me a lot when boromir was defending three bases and died the two cought were merry and pippin lol the third was frodo lucky legolas saved that one base hobbit. and the biggest thing in the world was when aragorn and gimli saved 4 bases as two bases split up from the others as the third followed with legolas it was a great battle to play i killed all but 4 shielded uruk and 2 bow armed uruk.

good work with it sorry i twicked it a little but it works for me that way, anyway loved it great job.

sounds good but as said before - i don't like the idea of warg riders being there, lose them and add more uruk's in their place. the base idea sounds cool, so good luck with it!

I thought along the lines that Orcs and Wargs don't care if they die, so long as they get to kill someone.

I'll have another look at this scenario now...

OK, revision:

Aragorn has Anduril

Boromir, Merry, and Pippin deploy in the middle of the board

Frodo deploys touching the middle of the western board edge

Sam deploys 6" away from Boromir, Merry, and Pippin.

Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are not avaliable at first, but will become avaliable as the game continues (how often do you hear that phrase?)

the bases idea is good but the wargs?

I have been working on a similar "empty base" idea to allow hidden movement within the rules of the game. Specifically with regard to Elf Cloaks ("house" rule to be posted this weekend once I work out some final details). I think your use of it in this case is great. 8)

A few suggestions (since you asked):

To best represent what is depicted in the movie and in the book, you will want to leave out the Wargs for sure. Besides being inappropriate in this scene, they also really tip the balance with regard to catching the hobbits due to thier extensive movement.

Likewise, do not give Aragorn Anduril. He's a capable enough warrior for this scenario without it and he did not get the sword reforged until the third movie.

If any captured Hobbit has suffered a Wound, the Evil player cannot score a Major Victory regardless of other conditions ( "Alive and Unspoiled", remember? )

Don't deploy the Hobbits seperately. It immediately tells the Evil player who is who. Instead, perhaps try this:

4x4 board. One edge of the board is labled as the river and the opposite end will be called the "Amon Hen" edge for lack of a better term. Amon Hen is placed on the center line of the table 12" from the Amon Hen edge ( the side opposite the river). The remaining two sides of the table will be called the "forest edges" here.

The good player must deploy all four Hobbits, Borimir and Aragorn within 6" of Amon Hen. Borimir and Aragorn must be at least 12" from each other. Gimil and Legolas start within 6" of the river.

The evil player divides his forces in half and will deploy one half on each of the two "forest edges", within 6" of the edge.

Frodo must escape by moving off the River edge of the board.

I obviously haven't play tested this so some of the deployment measurements may need to be tweaked for balance.

I sortof gave up on this idea.
I discovered that it didn't really work.

I would be very curious what you considered as the points of failure. Was it too hard for Good to win, or too unbalanced against Evil or something else unrelated to play-balance?
