Special Rules
Yes, I hear you on the special rule costs. Special rule costs varying based on power was something we discussed, and I fought for, but ended up losing to being a flat-rate of 5 points. I'll bring it up in future discussions!

Dunland + Ruffians
I think it'd be fair to keep Ruffians in. You can treat wildmen and Dunlendings as Thugs and Highwaymen, so why not the opposite? Treat ruffians as "Hunter-Gatherers" who are not as tough but tote the hunting equipment necessary to bring home the bacon. Of course, feel free to house-rule like you have been doing but I am just offering food-for-thought!

Since we're on the topic of special rules... What was the driving force behind changing the cost of special rules? Just curious. PS I <3 battle companies

Heroes felt bloated to most of the people and they felt more comfortable having a flat 5 point cost rather than 10 point cost. Others later pushed for varied costs.

Some special rules like the Heroic-action one used to be automatically free action at a 5 point value, but later it was nerfed to a 4+ trigger to bring it closer to being a 5-point power level.

That is interesting because when I take my hero for my Arnor company who was made with the ten point variant and compare him to other official lotr heroes he falls right in at point value. To me, the lack of might is what caused the bloated feel. Thanks for sharing though.

Luckily the only time that the point difference is a problem is when comparing a special-rule hero with a non special-rule hero. Unfortunately, that is pretty often. If the others come around on the varied-points or the return of the 10 point flat-rate, you'll be the first to know. (If I remember :P)

LOL, don't feel the need to change the game for my sake. I have played enough RPGs growing up, I am quite adept at house ruling :)

I wouldn't, it'd be for mine! I had a lot of house-rules for my playgroup.

I just read through 2016 edition, glorious read it was, I did encounter something odd with spiders however, why do they only move 8", this seems to be a problem as there is no reason to make them the heroes as they would stay at move 8" especially seeing as the mirwood spiders movement has been upped to 10 with the release of TaBA

The whole thing will need an update with the new stuff from the latest rulebook. At this point, it's a rather large document, so it takes a little while to go though everything, and I'm still waiting on my copy of the rulebook to arrive!

My friend and I played a few games last week and are playing this Wednesday. We have the 2016 and the previous (2014 - 2015) rules set. I am also waiting for a copy of there and back again. But, when the time comes we could try to help with new rule additions.

I just have a question with your work for Arnor. Why warriors cost the same price at the rulebook, but they cant have the spear and shield ? 10 points (or gold) for a C2 guy ... not really famous ! It's an error, or it's ok ?

It is possible that it is an error, I'd have the check it later when I am off work.

I would like to return to LOTR/Hobbit after two or three years and battle companies are the perfect spot. I am very happy to see reincarnation of the old White Dwarf article into such excellent volume. Great work!
