Hi Toke,

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the hobby! I wouldn't worry too much about being a beginner :) The community is here to help and travelling to a tournament is a great way of meeting other LOTR players, especially since our community isn't as widespread or concentrated!

My first advice would be to post in the Population thread and see if there are any players in your local area so you can learn the game. It may take the odd bit of travelling to get games but it is well worth it :) Tournaments are nationwide, I'm expecting you to be in Manchester for our channel tournament April next year!

All tournaments are different in terms of points required, good/evil armies etc so just look around and find the ones which suit you :) Don't worry about being competitive, best way to learn the game is to get games with players who will guide you along, even at a tournament.

The very best of luck! Any questions, feel free to post here!

Hey Toke. I'm in a similar boat to you. I've just started getting into the community side of the hobby, and keen to hit some tournaments aswell. I'm based not far from you (surrey/hamp border) so if you fancy someone to practice/learn with, shoot me a PM!

Great idea! Get together for a game and I want you to send a picture to our channel of you both holding a piece of paper saying "first age subscribers" or "supporting our hobbit hobby!"

How would I go about arranging a GBHL tournament?

Author:  SouthernDunedain [ Thu Jan 09, 2014 1:27 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Locations

Well, for a tournament to be considered for the league, people have to be made aware of it I think a month or two in advance. You'll need a venue and an events pack. It's also a good idea to try and do the tournament in a month where there are no other tournaments. I think June/ july are empty of tournaments atm although throne of skulls is due in the summer at some point.

Where you thinking of hosting one?

I was considering Cardiff. There's a very large hobbyshop with a gaming hall that'd be perfect for hosting a tournament - it even has its own bar!

As for timing I was considering Sept/Oct, as I see they're still unallocated

I live in cardiff so I'm all for that idea, I've been travelling a lot (+ going to uni somewhere else) since I got into the hobby so I haven't really gamed in Cardiff at all is there much of a SBG scene here?

EDIT- Just noticed the thread necromancy (sorry)

I would attend a tournament in Cardiff 8)

Does anyone know if there is a GBHL tournament in December this year? I am very free around that time and can now afford to travel a bit further. Also if there are details about any upcoming tournaments beyond that I would love to know about them, thanks :)

The league finale will be held in Stockport this year on the 6/7th December.

All upcoming events can be found in the event tab on the GBHL FB page here.

If you're not on facebook, here is the list.

List of League counting events for this year:
24-25 August - London Titans, Longbottom Carnival
27-28 September - Stockport, Desolation of Stockport
11 October - East Grinstead, Best Event Ever Pt.2
1-2 November - Mansfield, Pre-film Tournament
22-23 November - Stirling, The Scouring of Stirlingshire
6-7 December - Stockport, The League Final.

In addition here's the list of other events held at Orc Ward Battles in Huddersfield, which will not count towards the league this year but are highly recommended:
September 13th - SOLD OUT
October 4th - 700points Doubles Tournament
November 8th - 1000points per player Black Gate (mega battle)
January 3rd - Battle of 12 generals (550point singles tournament)

I don't have facebook so I really appreciate that, thanks :)

Lots of stuff happening up north, so looks like I have a lot of travelling to do if I want to attend a tournament :( Should be worth it though 8)

Post subject:  Re: Locations

Somewhere in Gloucester. I was told by the GW manager that they get regular games and I do get some games at Swindon wargames but I am looking for a tournament and it appears quiet down south  I thought I heard something about Cheltenham in one of the "speak friend and questions" but must have heard wrong.

If anyone is local to Gloucester/Cheltenham etc then let me know if you want to travel up to a tournament sometime :)

Post subject:  Re: Locations

Ah ok, there was a tournament in Cheltenham planned for 6/7th Dec but the organisers had to cancel it. I think it is due to happen early 2015 now. East Grinstead isnt too far though, I work nearby and drive to Gloucester sometimes, only takes 2ish hours.

Post subject:  Re: Locations

You're right, East Grinstead isn't too far for a day out :puppy: Will have to check out the tournament on the 11th October, if there are tickets still available :D

A shame about the Cheltenham tournament. I will definitely be there whenever they decide to run it.

Thanks for the info SouthernDunedain 8)
