though i've already seen the armor part, this is absolutly great! it isn't only a way to paint you dwarves to a high standard but also a way to NNM

It's not the highest standaard, especially the NMM, but I'm very satisfied with the results.

Hope I'll find the courage to start part two some day soon!

And then I can start thinking about the next years project... heh :)

Having a common colour helps unite a force with a range of diverse minis. Blue was your choice, others may take green or brown - it's just a matter of personal choice. I prefer to leave the foot-tab (or whatever it should be termed) on the minis - it adds to the strength of the bond to the base.

The overall result here is a very pleasing array of vertically challenged combatants, ready to, err, start counting aloud, as it were... :oops: If they were mine, they would be filthy (as advised by Master Gimli himself).

A fine article indeed, Bart! :yay: It’s always a pleasure to learn how miniature-painters are pursuing their trade. Especially if they’re scenerybuilders as well. You’re multi-skilled! But I must agree with Dorthonion: even for a display-army, these Dwarves are looking too, eh… sterile. More spots of mud, dirt and blood would certainly become them.

Also, I’m a bit puzzled: maybe I would appreciate the results even more if you can explain to me why one should use the so called “NMM-technique?” Why not use every kind of paint if a model ‘asks’ for it? Just curious… :?

I understand the thing with the 'too sterile' or not dirty and muddy enough... Dunno why I didn't/don't add mud and dirt... I think I so like to have a nice blue army on my shelf (after painting almost nothing but brown) that adding mud and so on would make me sad again to loose some of the nice royal colour.
In fact I haven't painted mud and dirt and blood anymore for years now on my figures... I think this has kinda popped out of my mind lately, heh.

About NMM-choice... I guess it's just a personal preference. I know I'm terrible in painting metallics. I can never get the contrast good and barely see the difference between the different shades of metallic to silver when I paint it on... I've tried a lot in the past, but I can only get it right on evil models, because of the rusty thouch I can give it to bring more contrast. On good models, I always fail doing that... hence the choice for NMM I guess since there I can do with the contrast whatever I want...

Thanks Bart! 8) I had a look at the Peregrin Took article & now I (think I) understand: using metallic paints on a miniature is more difficult than regular paints. Never knew that... Alright, I’m going to study your article again; now I know what I have to look for. :)
