How different is the old fellowship set to the New one? Is it gonna be metal again?

The sets returning next year are: Attack at Weathertop, Escape from Orthanc, The Fellowship of the Ring, Battle at Khazad Dum and Ambush at Amon Hen.

Asgarod - if GW holds true to what they have done with made to order in the past on older sets, they should be all metal.

Been in the hobby since the movies came out, I have all the figures in the upcoming made to orders except the eagle from Orthanc and seem to be missing the fire piece from Weathertop. Looks like I might be saving some money on the made to orders but I'm sure it will be spent elsewhere.

Me too (and long before that), this is my era of collecting LotR SBG figures. I have still not managed to finish the (metal) Balrog though, just holding that lump to paint the many details hurts.
Glad to see them back around, these were the best of the figures, the first ones that had a contract clause with New Line requiring the model to get "sign off" from the actors as to likeness before release.
Unlike a lot of the later versions, these actually look like the characters in the movies.

I can't wait to get The Balrog and relive that experience of assembling and painting it. Not an easy one, but that's part of the charm!

Any word of when these go on pre-order yet?

No dates have been announced yet on the launch of this made-to-order.

They just did one over Christmas for Forgeworld Thorin's company which closed recently. Presumably the Fellowship one will be relatively soon (next month or two?)

Maybe it will be sooner ... next Saturday has Blood Bowl and Aeronautica releases, and Middle Earth often gets released with them.

I have the original metal Balrog, and I've never even assembled it. The two halves of the body are so warped that if you put the middle together, both ends are wide apart. I guess the idea is that you fill it in with green stuff, but that would end up with a very lumpy looking Balrog.

I heard another suggestion about heating the pieces and trying to straighten them. This worked for me with something else, can't remember what. But that Balrog was really messed up.

Yeah that amount of hot metal in a single lump does produce distortion as it cools, big multipart models in white metal are prone to it.
I remember having to take a hacksaw and dremel to get mine to fit together.
