Look on the bright side if they are finecast we know that they will look great, I think they will be released as a booklet dosen't seem very permanent to me and its not hard for them to change a PDF file.

Yeah I assume they'll look awesome.

Finecast is essentially plastic, so how does this make sense? Blisters used to be metal, which I will always prefer to FC.

As for the Dwarves, I really want to see them in any form. I'm just putting together my first box of Grimhammers and my second of Erebor Dwarves (mixing and matching a bit) and man are they cool.

Yeah it would be such a shame and a missed opportunity if they didn't make any new dwarves at all.

Because I am comparing blisters to boxed sets. As I refer in my posts to being a long time collector here, I very well know that the blisters are now resin. And I know they are not injection grade plastic, so they are not the same as plastic either. But a blister price has only gone up 150% but a plastic box has gone up 300% and that is what I have noted, Esentially a high quality blister is a better value to me (both in the metal days and now in the FC days).
in your post you also make note that you 'prefer' metal. so to you FC is a lower Value to you. Just because we both have different value systems to the miniatures doesn't make my point invalid as it is only referring to how paying 300% more for a plastic box makes me cringe because I deal in plastics all the time and know that this is a rip off. Resin prices although high, didn't seam as far off the mark IMO. hope that helps.

We could start another new thread on FC vrs. metal yet again but I think it is pointless, those that hate FC will always hate it, it is a fact they won't change. I have gone through a lot of metal and FC blisters now and have not returned either one. I have had weapons break off in prep on both, FC was easier to fix or weapon swap. I have had both be bent and hard to put together. both have to be washed well to paint well. both are bad to drop from high, but FC seams to not break and not chip where metal does both. Metal models I am told sit better on a table top, yet on most uneven terrain or nice tables that are not just flat, metals fall all the time where plastics and FC models seam to stay put as the texture is enough to hold them. All this and more has formed my opinion that FC is as good as Metal. And since prices went up on all models in the range, I can't say that Metals would not have gone up too had GW stuck with it. That is why when I refer to blisters, I refer to all blisters, metal or FC, as to me it was a material change and nothing else said can make one better than an other.

In case anyone was wondering how well Grimhammers converted into Iron Hills pikemen, I have done just that:

The spear hafts are paperclips, the spearheads and shields are plasticard. Out of the box of 12 I was able to get 9 poses suitable for pikemen, the other 3 were given 2-handed axes and will act as Kingsguard (elite troops) in my Iron Hills army list.

So as others have said, this is definitely the way to go for Iron Hills dwarves unless GW come out with some plastics. In total, including cutting all the scratch-built parts, it took just over an hour to get this bunch done, so it's not that time-intensive. Hope this was useful.

Iron Dwarves are so aesthetically similar to Grimhammers, that I don't know if new models would be worth it.

Helmets and shields are different, plus mainly spears, slightly different armour and poses... I'd have bought them if GW had done a plastic box...

Agreed, while converting Grimhammers is easy enough, I'd rather just have seen a box of pikemen to save the time and effort of converting each one. Same with the Elves; I'll be converting some Galadrim which shouldn't be too hard, but it's certainly not easier than just opening a box and gluing the minis together.

FYI, the shields there look very similar to the one that comes with Nori, Champion of Erebor...

Don't know why people keep calling those spears pikes. Based off the height of those dwarves, the spears are only a little over 6' tall, much less than the length of a pike.

The spears/pikes are much longer in the movie than the greenscreen picture thought.

I have been disappointed that we have not heard anything yet about this. I already ordered some metal substitutes. It is already well known how I feel about fine cast.
I think the pike/spear issue comes down to we want to use the pike rules.

This is a 3D printed model That looks decent.

I would use these before I would buy fine cast again.https://www.heroforge.com/

You're willing to pay $25 for one mini that doesn't even have rules yet, but you're not willing to pay $25 for 3 minis in a material that has seriously gotten really good?

Eenh, I still find my minis are a little warped. Both Thror and Hobbit Legolas' horse have two halves that don't fit together well at all.

You know if you just soak them in hot water for 10 seconds they will fit together like a well tailored suit. It no longer bothers me as it is a simple fix. No worse than removing flash or mould lines. Nobody ever complained about that. Our hobby (this range) has evolved. You either change with it or bail out. No shame in either.

^I was thinking devolved when it went from metal to FC. But that's just me.

Crossing fingers that they still release iron hill dwarfs, no matter what form, in the near or distant future. Dain Ironfoot has captured my imagination from the books a long time ago, so would like to have a miniature of him and his warpig.

I heard the detailing on these models aren't quite good quality yet. And the price for customization? Hero forge indeed, because you certainly don't want to get regular regiments from them. I believe Heroforge will improve in quality probably and hopefully in less than a decades time.
