Would pure (or at least mainly) army of the dead setup be possible?
Might not be extremely competative but just seems like fun having a great horde of ghost warriors and cavalry on the board.

There's only 1 Hero for them, so with Warbands you couldn't do too much. Adding them into a force containing Aragorn or some Fiefdoms would be cool though.

There not exactly about ur topic but they are about the army of the dead so you might find them a bit useful? idk..

A nice army would be Warriors of the Dead and Rangers. The Rangers provide spear support and archery, and it's very thematic. Something like this:

King of the Dead
11 Warriors of the Dead

Halbarad
12 Rangers with spears
3 Rangers of the North

I think that's 500pts, or at least pretty close.

Give the Warriors of the Dead shields with what spare points you have.

AotD do have spears too now, but I wouldn't put a modle that costly in support unless absolutely necessary.

Recently I played a game against Army of the Dead, Rangers of Gondor and Warriors of Minas Tirith. Of the 3, Army of the Dead was a pain to destroy -- with shield a defence of 7 or 8! Although the "Hold Ground" game ended in a draw, it was not enjoyable at all.
