I dont think I like finecast :(

OOOOOOhhh no..... was I supposed to? I just assumed it was like painting a plastic miniature :roll:

. I couldn't get the white to go on at all so I've started priming straight onto the model with black which is going on but will need a few minor touch ups before real work commences. Do you think drybrushing straight onto the black will be ok or do you think I'm going to scrub the black straight off?

Yes as IsleStaggerholm pointed out, with resin miniatures you need to give it a good wash to clean it of the oils that prevent paint from sticking properly. If the black you've tried now has covered ok then you should be able to paint over that as normal.

I really like finecast and I seem to be in the majority. The first batch of them were, for the majority, poor quality but the quality has improved considerably since (although with a business such as GW, they shouldn't have been poor quality in the first place). And the detail is far better. Then again they are quite a change for people who aren't used to cleaning and painting resin miniatures so I can understand why a lot of people dislike them.

I'll reserve judgement until when I finish painting this one, this is my 1st experience with resin miniatures and I suppose its not that I don't like it, I guess its just because its different and I'm a bit stuck in my ways and resistant to change.

I'm right with you brother. I don't own any yet (have a few ForgeWorld resin pieces however and I rather like them) but I am open to seeing how these models are...not crazy about loosing the weight of the metal miniatures, nor the price increase, but I am all for keeping an open mind.

Are you saying you don't normally wash your minis before you paint them because you probably should! It's only essential if they're resin but it's good practice whatever they are.

I scrub metals with an old toothbrush before I prime them - plastics I don't I just triim of the flash / mold lines and prime away - having had no experience with rein / finecast I treat it like plastic assembled Gulavhar then the paint wouldn't adhere to it... took me ages to gently scrub it before i could apply the primer.

The reason is the mould release agent. With resin casting (unlike metal), they coat the moulds with a barrier spray that makes it easy to pop the finished model out from the mould. This mould release agent tends to cling in a fine coat on the resin models, so you need to wash 'em in mild soapy water before priming them. I wash plastic models too, just in case.

What's dubious is that no one has produced any kind of evidence beyond 'I think it feels like Finecast' to go against FWs explicit statement that they did not use Finecast resin. Nor has any evidence been presented that these tests were deemed unsuitable. No offense to those who think they have FW Finecast intended, but I have Finecast models showing half a dozen variations in rigidity and even more with FW. I have an Avatar I purchased back in 2007 (I think?) which is just like Finecast.

And before anyone accuses me of defending FW or GW or whatever other nonsense, I'll just say again is all I want is some actual evidence to back up the claims people have made. As I've twice now linked to comments from FW explicitly denying these claims. Evidence, not opinions.

I don't think I have see any evidence pro or con.
I don't think I like fine cast is a statement of opinion.I don't like it either. Again an opinion, but I don't think I am going to buy any.
Years ago I purchased resin miniatures from another company, They recommended removing the mold release with vinegar and soapy water. It has worked on every mold release I have encountered so far. When I paint large models or large matches of resin I float the mold release off in a large tub of vinegar and soapy water. It takes a day or two. I wash plastic too.

I dont think I like finecast :(
