I will see how the project goes and then I'll let you know. If I tell you now and it turns out to be rubbish, then it would be a real let down.

Yeh right. From your previous efforts I can't quite see it being rubbish somehow. Still, a little teaser now and then all adds to the anticipation.

ProCreate is sweet! (I think that's the current term for 'ace' or 'mint'.)

Thanks for the comments. Well, you are right as usual UKFB, it's not rubbish and the project is moving on nicely. I have finally bitten the bullet and have begun a scratch-built mini. I want to write an article on what I'm doing but, in the meantime, here's a wip pic that doesn't give away all my intentions :wink:

natarn - that looks awesome. your sculpting skills are so impressive given your relatively new experience.

I can say, I've tried to work with ProCreate and I don't care for it. But then again, I don't really care for working with greenstuff that much either.

I have problems keeping something in the shape I put it in (either because it collapses from gravity) or getting the ridges and fingerprints to smooth out. I wish I could describe it, but I just can't!

I know what you mean. Last year I tried to sculpt a dwarf using green stuff and wire but worked far too quickly. I attempted to sculpt the boots, trousers, bottom of a coat and chain-mail skirt all in one go. Total failure.

The trick is to take it really slowly - one thing at a time. If you are applying gs or pc over a solid core, then it holds its shape perfectly with no deformation due to gravity.

To make the mini above, I first made a core out of putty and let it harden. Then I added the folds of the skirt and the chest, building on that core. I hope this helps.

I think I really just need to practice and take my time as well. I usually have so little free time that I try to get more accomplished with my sculpting than I should :wink:

I'm curious, how bulky is your core and how thick is the layer of PC around that core? I'm just wondering if I should be building a more solid core to try and sculpt from.

Not very bulky. We are talking about just a few millimetres.

It is all about adding layers - like an onion (not like a cake). This is especially true when sculpting ogres*. Start with the rough shape of the bones, then add muscle, then add cloth, then add armour... And make sure you've let each layer set before moving on to the next.

ProCreate is far more forgiving than green stuff. It can be easily cut or filed when it has set. Corrections can be made more readily.

Trying to achieve too much in one go just doesn't work or, as I think a Hobbit once said, Short cuts make long delays.
