There will be a total of 8 ranks.

I will probably run polls to finalise the names of the other ranks too, but here is what I am thinking at the moment.

  • Rank 0 - ???
  • Rank 1 - Vassal?
  • Rank 2 - Spearman
  • Rank 3 - Warrior
  • Rank 4 - Banner Bearer
  • Rank 5 - Captain
  • Rank 6 - Champion
  • Rank 7 - Lord

As long as I have the option of being an 'Elf Maiden' or 'Lady' at Rank 7, it looks good. Not that I'll ever get there, lol.

I will see if I can make it so they recognise gender, or at least be non-specific.

So 'Spearman' might become 'Hireling' or something, while 'Lord' might be better off as 'Noble' or perhaps 'Steward'

This is just an idea, how about a rank system based on English nobility, like this:

1) Gentleman
2) Esquire
3) Knight
4) Baronet
5) Baron
6) Viscount
7) Earl
8) Marquess
9) Viceroy
10) Duke
11) Archduke
12) Prince
13) Monarch
14) Emperor

I think "Marquis" is the French word, and "Marquess" the English.

I think "Marquis" is the French word, and "Marquess" the English.

I believe Marquess is the feminine, though I could be wrong.

Anyway, what's wrong with good ol' "Wayfarer" and that old format? Just out of curiosity; I liked working my way up through the Gondorian hierarchy back in the day.

Wow, I feel old now.

According to feedback I've had, the old idea of different rank titles for different realms was a bit too complex for newcomers to understand and it was difficult to tell which ranks equated to each other.

Was an Elven Loremaster the same as a Dwarven Runekeeper, and were they higher than a Rohan Stablemaster? Who knew? So I'm keen on keeping the ranks the same across the realms and using something a bit LOTRy with their titles.

The old 'Wayfarer' name came about because we'd get a lot of new memberships created and then not joining in the forums, moving on to other things. So Wayfarer seemed to fit.

I also think wayfarer is fitting as a first rank.

What I meant was nobody else could vote for it without reading Kev's mind and suggesting the same option. It wasn't listed with the rest to choose from is my point.

A second poll then, with the top three plus Wayfarer?

Sounds good but I suggest only one vote this time around. :-D
