Welcome to the November painting challenge. This months subject will be
Image

THE IRON HILLS

This will be a single miniature challenge

1. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

2. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of Nov 30th 2016. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 6 photos per model of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from front, back and each side which is more than enough. If you would like to compile more than four pictures into one file it is ok to do that

Pictures of completed models must be submit using a third party hosting site such as photobucket or imageshack. Pictures submit by attachment will not be eligible for the vote. Any problems PM me.

3. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

4. With the introduction of The League Winners from the previous month are now eligible to enter and win consecutive challenges without penalty.

Good luck and have fun!

Great challenge, I can't wait to see if someone enters one of the new Forge World releases.

A question concerning entries. I don't have any of the new dwarves from the Iron Hills, or any proxies either, but could I enter one of the dwarves from Thorin's company instead? Bofur for example?

Cheers,

HD

And what about to paint a Gundabad's Orc as Dwarves enemy?

Gundabad is stretching the topic a little but if you are totally stuck then sure.

For a while I could resist to not pre-order any of the Iron Hills dwarves but after reading this thread I had a weak moment and pressed a few buttons on the forgeworld site...

Dain is on his way...

Happy and sad at the same time... I feel so weak. :(

Weak? WEAK?! Are ye some faithless woodland sprite? Don your armour, grab your hammer and saddle the.. erm, pig... and proudly ride into battle!

May have to dig deep into either the cupboard or the wallet to participate myself, though I may have some of Thorin's Company as a potential back-up. Would be nice to enter, it's been a while.

Are we allowed to enter non-GW mini's? Such as a nice little dwarf with a bagpipe from a certain Polish company?

No. This website is all about the officially licensed range of figures from Games Workshop and now Forgeworld. Unlicensed miniatures from third party vendors are not eligible for the challenge.

Maybe we should keep that rule a bit more clear at the first post of a competition in the future. Last month's Dunland winner is non-GW/FW too, and the winner from the month before that (Banners) was also non-GW/FW.
Just to avoid confusion or disappointment I think it should be added to the rules because it looks like there are various opinions on this topic.

Ah, granted. I have not ventured into the Challenge forum often so it appears things have slipped under the radar. I will have a chat to DMS about it as he generally runs things in this area. The way I see it though the miniature suggested definitely falls into the subject matter clearly set out in the sticky thread below.

Good point re. The need for a rules update re. 3rd party miniatures.

It all comes down to copyright I'm afraid. We have to be careful in this day and age.
There is a difference between a model being used as a proxy and an unlicensed Lotr themed model. I will go as far as to say that challenge entries will be allowed at the moderation teams discretion. If in doubt check first. In the case above Dave is correct and I have to say no this model is not eligible.

In the words of GBHL James "Support your hobbit hobby!"

My prof picture to follow as well, my order arrived today, they are awesome. The packaging is slightly ostentatious and with more generic boxes could pass a few pounds saving to us, but I couldn't be happier with the pieces.

Hi.
I used non-GW thumbnails in recent Challenges, I did not know I had to use GW thumbnails, so if you want to declare winner the second is not a problem for me, I understand that my entry was not valid.

And for this new Challenge I haven't got any Iron Hills Dwarf, so I want to ask if I could participate with a Khâzad-Dum. If is a problem I will not participate this month, not problem and see you next month.... I hope...
