Welcome to the very first (hopefully of many) One Ring Diorama Challenge.
Image

This challenge is to make a diorama which must include at least 2 models

There is No size restriction for the piece and no set theme as such as long as the piece is in keeping with Middle Earth, its is completely up to you what you would like to do with this.

The challenge commences immediately and completed projects must be uploaded to this thread by midnight GMT of Jun 30th 2014 making the challenge last for 6 months.

Any problems or questions feel free to PM me.

Rules.

1. Any miniatures used on the diorama require proof pictures to be taken as normal with the unpainted miniature against the challenge screen. Models already primed are fine to enter and if repainting an already painted model a picture of the mini in its pre repainted state is acceptable.

2. As it is difficult to take proof pics of terrain pieces then all that is required as proof is 5 Work in progress pictures of the terrain part of the diorama must be submitted either at some point during the challenge or alongside your completed piece.

3. You may join the challenge at any point. Pictures of completed pieces and 5 WIP pictures to be uploaded to this thread by midnight GMT of June 30th 2014. A maximum of 6 pictures of your completed piece please.

4.Entries that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

Have fun guys!

As this seems to be a diorama competition not a painting competition how would I go about doing a sculpting piece in it too? I plan to have a hobbit archer shooting a sculpted rabbit... should I sculpt the rabbit first and then take pics or should I just include the rabbits sculpture in the proof and WiP pics?

Yay! :D This could not have been timed better and gives me plenty of time to work in. I will either be doing a Barrels out of Bond or, most likely, "Old Friends" (Gandalf and Bilbo at the front door of Bag End from FotR) diorama. Or perhaps something completely different but you can count me in! I will probably not get started until February so don't expect proof pics until then.

Sone excellent ideas already and I can't wait to see what everyone else will be doing.

As I started this subject it would be rude for me not to enter. I am both feet in.

Fantastic! Good that this is being organised. :D

I got so many plans though..! Fëanor drawing his sword on his brother, Tom Bombadil saving the Hobbits, Sam finding a webbed Frodo.. Such a hard choice!

Anyway, great! Looking forward to enter in this one. :)

Interesting indeed, and while I don't have the time or resources to make something that's not much use in games for the time being, a diorama with seperate models or one of the various planned objective markers may well make for a good entry.

One suggestion though: if this thread doesn't see much activity somewhere in the next few months, could somebody just post here to remind everybody of this challenge? Otherwise, I'm bound to forget it until people post some entries halfway through June, and it's probably too late to get something done by then! :)

Great, so pleased this has finally started, well done Mally brilliant idea.

I have several ideas swamping around my head, so will post at a later date my entry.

I think it would a good idea to keep the thread "alive" of people post a lot of wip pictures.

Hey warrior, I got a tip for making lake town. Thomarillion produces nice lake town buildings and docks.
