Welcome to the August Painting Challenge thread. This month you have chosen

THE DWARF HOLDS

Image

Rules
If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.

A maximum of 3 miniatures can be entered in this challenge. Single mini entries are also acceptable.

1.To complete the challenge a miniature must be completed by August 31st.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniatures 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of August 31st 2013. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos per model of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from multiple angles.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all

Might enter my MoM Gimli but as I'm working on my massive wood elf backlog I'm not sure :?

Here's my proof pic

The whole of Thorin's company :D

Really excited about this one. I've been itching to get stuck into these gorgeous minis for 8 months now but have been diligently working through my backlog first. This challenge has come at the perfect time to finally get started on my big pile of Hobbit minis.

I'm off on hols until halfway thought August but gonna get them all cleaned up and assembled and then pick my favourite 6 or 7 minis to paint. After that I'll see how they all turn out and then decide how many to enter, it's a really nice twist being able to enter 1, 2 or 3 models - looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Can't wait - good luck all!

I'm painting the original Gimli model from the Fellowship of the Ring box.

Photo evidence below.

Image

Most of the work was done today. I prepared the base a few months ago, but I carved the cobblestones today. I had begun painting Gimli last week, but the undercoat has been rubbing away today as I was drilling and pinning him so I'll be starting over and re-undercoating him.

I thought there was one WIP for everyone entering the challenge to post their progress updates in. Do we just make our own threads in the normal WIP board, or can we post updates here in this thread?

And speaking of progress, I've finished painting the base and pinned Gimli to it. Next step is to undercoat Gimli.

No you make your own thread then it serves for all the WiP you may be doing and gives people easy access to look back over things at a later date.

Generally people do post some WiP shots in this thread. Some days I like it, some days not so much but I guess putting it here can give some inspiration, but I'd say the preference is in your own WiP

Mithril miniatures - yes no problem

Diorama - yes ok but it can't use any other miniatures other than the maximum 3 dwarves that the challenge allows.
