@ Bart -- I did my Gully in red and fleshy colors (with a little bluish for veins in the wing membranes).

For my monster(s), I may tackle my Mordor Troll and Troll Loader.

The water effect on the base is really impressive - How did you achieve it if you don't mind me askin' I've been trying to work out a way of getting that effect for my watcher in the water bases for a long time - I don't want to paint the tentacles until I know what I'm doing with the bases.

Well done, monsters! :)

An excellent excuse to buy a new big mini!

It would be good to have a list of what was agreed as an accepted "monster" so that people don't need to wade through all of this thread to find out.

@ Erunion: thanks for the pic! He looks great! Nice job with the watereffect and very clever use of the warg-base! :)
I may go for Gulavhar perhaps... tempting... lol

@Bart -- Thanks! I wanted to do that with the Warg base so that Gully would look like he was interrupted mid-meal. I even sculpted some intestines hanging out of him where the Chieftains foot plugs in!

@DMS -- To be honest, I don't remember exactly how I got that water effect, but I believe it went something like this:

Necron Abyss basecoat, Mordian Blue streaks, Fenris Grey streaks, Asurmen Blue wash.

Then I added the blood dripping into the water with Baal Red/Red Gore. After it was finished and sealed with Matte varnish, painted some Gloss varnish onto the water for some shine.

Here's a better angle of the water.

Hope that helps!

Jon, that is one outstanding model! You did one hell of a job on him!! :)
I truly hate the sculpt, but the paint job that you pulled off on this one almost makes me want to buy it. :)

Thanks, Dave! Like Bart, I didn't really care for the 'Eavy Metal paint scheme, but I like how my red one turned out, and also the ghostly scheme in the WotR rulebook.

Thanks Jake! Those of us who don't have a local GW around need to start ordering online soon so that we'll be ready when the challenge begins.

Now I just have to decide... too many cool minis to choose from. This is also going to need some other painting to keep up with the backlog reduction oath since I don't have any of those big guns unpainted in my backlog.

Ohhh, I never saw the ghostly paint scheme of this model...do you think you could scan a copy of it for me? :)

The scan is not the greatest, because it's part of a larger army shot. The blueish skin matches all the other skin in his army, so I thought it looked pretty neat.

Wow! Yes, that color scheme makes him look... Deathly... Or maybe deadly was what I was looking for... Somewhere in between and both at the same time! :-)

Oh darn, i REALLY want to buy a giant eagle so i can enter but i have a weird feeling that GW are gonna make an update for the upcoming "war in the north" videogame, in which case they will have to make a new eagle that is capable of beating the (rude word) out of trolls, and i don't want to pay lots of money for the current eagle, only for them to make a better sculpt+stats...

I doubt they will make miniatures for a video game, much more likely they will just wait for the Hobbit. They've never made any for a game before, so I doubt they are going to start now. Besides, the Eagle mini is great anyway.

I know, but after playing that game i just know i will be all: I need to include an eagle in ALL my armies!!! But i agree, the mini isn't too great and the only benefit of the model in sbg is that it can outfight dragons, trolls and other such evil things. And about not making mini's based on the game, it was only after the fat shaman apeared in conquest that the orc taskmaster was made so they must have a bit of inspiration. In addition, war in the north just screams out for a gw update based on it, everyone is suspecting a Lotr update, and i would like to hope that it will be this!
