Hi all. With the dwarf bolt thrower the stats say it has a defence of 8 so if I were attacked does that mean the men manning it have a defence of 8 or the bolt theower itself does, coz you'd only ever attack the men as they have a lower defence and the artillery won't work anyway without the men??

Only the bolt thrower has that defence. The men that are manning the artillery have the defence specified on their profile :)

Why would you attack the bolt thrower directly if it has a higher defence as soon as the men manning it are killed then the bolt thrower is classed as useless and destroyed isn't it?

You realise that the unit has just Defence 8, right? There is no separate profile for the crew in WotR. You attack the formation/company which has that profile.

I was under the impression that anyone could man the siege machines, but have a -1 of some sort. This would have been under the Siege of Gondor rules though I think.

So really, you would only attack it so it couldn't be re-manned - a small force might be coming to clear out your 2 units which were sent to tie it up but won their fights? you instant win combats against it? not many reasons its true, but might happen in the rare case.

@Hodush, @Elf Lover, you are thinkng of catapults in SBG. This is about catapults in WOTR.

Hashut is correct. The fortmation has one defnece value. 8 is the defence.

Check the thread title guys - it says WotR ;)

If the question IS referring to SBG, then the title is wrong, lol.

There is a forum for all things WotR, and since there are fewer players (and therefore less traffic) than for SBG, anybody mind if I move these WotR threads to the WotR forum?
