The server ran out of memory apparently, so our hosts had to shut things down in order to add more. That took a few hours, but prior to that the site was horrendously slow and I couldn't even log in to the server to see if any problem had been reported.

So when it came back, we were left with a 'General Error' which thankfully I know how to fix. I will show Mac and Bart how to resolve it in the future too, so that we can cope with it if it happens again.
