| Post subject: | Cheap rocky terrain! |
Over the last few weeks I’d been looking at ways of making terrain as cheaply as possible (whilst hopefully still looking effective) using mostly stuff from around your home & hobby box. All you need is some PVA, tube of tacky super glue (UHU glue), some flock or static grass, some coarse sand/grit, also some cardboard packaging from something like a box of cereal, a handful of stones (I used slate, but any stone will do). Then finally a cheap black rattle can paint from a pound shop & any grey/brown/lighter grey paint you have laying around. 1.) Using your cardboard cut circular bases out. 2.) Arrange stones on cardboard bases as desired, then glue into place. (Leave for an hour) 3.) PVA Sand/grit around base of stones. (Leave for 24 hours) 4.) Spray black. (Leave for 30mins) 5.) Dry brush the base & stones grey, then brown & finally lighter grey. 6.) Add static grass or flock to bases with PVA. DONE! The overall cost on the build was £1 for a tube of glue,due to the other stuff being readily available at home. |

Ah, good old fashioned slate. I always fill my backpack with some after a hike. Always after, never before. |

Slate is too heavy and it doesn't look as good as pine bark chips, which cost about 10 bucks for 50 pounds of them at Home Dumpo. Which looks better? viewtopic.php?f=7&t=31501&hilit=bark |

Looks awesome dude; well done. Slate has a such a great texture that always comes up so well in dry brushing. I've only ever used it for basing, never in large pieces but it still holds up. ¬Hasufel |

These ones blend quite well with a gaming mat we use at the moment. |
