Has anyone built a desert based board, possibly with a Harad town or something?

As I would like to build one for my Haradirim yet I have no idea where to start and can't seem to find anything on how to start.

Thanks

(Also if you have any idea's/ inspiration for what I could do then please tell me :-D )

Here's a board done by Mini-Wargaming. Is this the kind of idea your looking for? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcgYlyNsAIY

Funny thing I was just working on some Harad buildings last night.

For my game board I just used 2pcs. of 2'x6'x1/2" MDF and glued sand onto it. As it is it looks pretty natural (greyish) but I'd like to paint it brown/tan/off-white.

For spamming buildings fast you can use TSMPaul's designs from TLA. He allowed me to archive it for him so here's the link.
TSMPaul's Basic Haradrim Architecture for LOTR
I've used the same template and extended one side by the width of the cardboard I'm using so I can paint and detail them myself using Popsicle sticks. You can always paint signs and army banners on the buildings aswell depending on what faction is in there.

I was planing on making some gentle sand hills and corners. How to cut the polystrene smooth is still on the table. I might build a hotwire cutter or jimmy up something with a soldiering gun. Worse comes to worse maybe just a hacksaw.

try a desert with a sunken city possibly, maybe karna and just the tops of some submerged buildings just a thought. it could look very interesting and be good in some scenarios :)
