Hi,
I normally make models out of sticks wrapped in foil then fimo over them.
I want to start making some walls for mines of moria.
Can I still use fimo over the styrofoam? The fimo needs to cure at about 130'C in the oven, but I normally get away with 100'C leave it longer and moisturise it half way through so it doesn't crack.
Will the styrofoam melt at 100'C?
Or do i need to get cheap air dry clay?
Any other solutions?

Oh yeah, it melts.
So what does everyone else use over styrofoam? or do people just put all the detail into the foam and paint it?

i always use styrofoam, with that white stuff, then paint it black, then paint details(drybrush methods)

Don't use any foam product in the oven. It will melt and could give off harmful fumes in the process. IMO Fimo or Sculpy is a rather expensive material for covering walls, anyway. I would suggest a foam covered with Joint Compound or Spackle (it is used to fill cracks or holes in drywall.) It covers well, air dries and is easily painted. You can work into it when wet and carve it dry. It is water clean up and safe to use.
It comes in small quantities to 5 gallon containers. Check your local hardware store. For the money, it a good value... better than the others you mentioned.

Update -
I found a harder foam wich can hapily go in the oven on about 100'C for 15mins without shrinking.
I've been doing a few rock formations recently and they really need supersculpy as I'm carving things on the stones. Wall filler just wont work.
