Here's some pictures of the lonely mountain that I made for playing the battle of five armies.
The figures shown are 15mm but the terrain will work for 15mm or 28mm figures.

The above three pictures were taken at a wargames show (Phalanx in the UK) last weekend. The lighting was a bit dodgy, so the colours in the photos are a bit strange. The photos below are better but I hadn't quite finished the river when I took them.

There is a lot more on my BOFA project, including some work-in-progress shots of the terrain here:

Beautiful terrain piece! 8) I like the design of the gate. The rocks look very realistic too.

Welcome to the site by the way!

Thanks. The stonework for the gate was a hirst arts kit, intended to be a dungeon room.
The rocks are made from tree bark. A lot of the inspiration for them was from this article:

(How can I make this a link rather than just text ?)

Ah yes, Hirst Arts! I've been tempted to buy some moulds for a long time..

I think new members can't have clickable links immediately (this is in order to stop spam bots). After a number of posts (I think 10), you will see that links will become clickable.

Pine bark is easy for me to get in the S.E. U.S. Some of you may have to use cork bark instead. Paint dark to light. I like House paint and drywall filler/mud for this.

Because bark is wood you can pin it with bamboo skewers.I I am truly looking forward to seeing more of your tables.

15mm scale makes the table scenery look a whole lot more epic!

Thanks. I was more interested in staying true to the book than the film version of the battle. No giant worms, leaping elves and mountain-top antics in my game!

This was one of my sources when designing the scenario.

Yes, the hirst arts stuff is intended for 28mm so I was a little worried it might look too big, but I agree it looks impressive with 15mm figures, and it will also work with 28mm figures for skirmish battles.

Tell us a little about the rules you are using.

I believe he's using the Games Workshop release of Battle of the Five Armies from the early 2000's.

The rules are called Sword & Spear. They are a set of rules for ancient & medieval wargames, but I am working on a fantasy variant. You can find out more about them on this thread:
