Greetings guys!

Been a huge lurker here since forever, but finally decided to say hello. Been playing LOTR since '01, been hooked ever since.

I recently got a new Mordor/Isengard Troll kit which comes with one torso and legs, but three heads and a whole host of arm options. I decided to try and get a bit more bang for my buck by making 3 trolls from the box; one pure box bits and two from the left over bits plus a huge chunk of greenstuff.

This was my first time sculpting on any serious level so I was keen on how you thought they turned out. The proportions aren't quite perfect, but the great thing about trolls is they're all stunted and unique, which helps hides mistakes :D

The fully box troll kitted out with drums:

For the skin texture I took inspiration from the old metal Mordor Troll model which has a lot more scales across his hide, as opposed to the new plastic box style which is mainly muscle with a few odd scales across his back and thighs.

Still have to base them and throw a few decals on. Paint job isn't amazing but reasonably happy with how they've turned out.

Hope you like 'em :D

Very nicely done! Certainly got your moneys worth out of that kit. You could build an army of trolls just by buying the parts off of ebay.

Thanks man :) Yeah I have another unopened box and have a few more wild idea for the next three, might try and give them a real theme. I'm thinking about some duel wielding poses and the like!

Well you had me fooled - I could barely tell which of the three bodies was from the kit and which you made yourself. Great work.

well, you certainly made the best out of the set. Excellent work with the greenstuff, I'd like the first on the left troll to have a bit longer lower limbs, as it would look better anatomically. Much better than what I'd be probably be able to do, though, until, at least 2025. :) :)
waiting for the new ones, now!
Well done!

Thanks guys :)

Yeah I think the centre troll could probably have long lower limbs as well. His lunging pose helps hide it but he's probably still a bit stunted.

Better get to work on that whole squad :D

After those 12 other projects I should get back to...

Sweet! You could do the same thing with ents, ya know, just sayin'...
(I'd actually really like to see what you could do with the ent kit.)

Thanks everyone.

Yeah I've actually been thinking about ents and eagles. Would be cool to have some more dynamic poses. The Eagles landing on some orcs, claws outward, or an ent hurling a boulder or something.

Is there a plastic ent kit? Or are they still metal?

They have been plastic for a few years now.

Yeah I has a look on Gdubs, it says it comes "two head variants and a host of additional components - no two Ents in your army need ever be the same".

That sounds promising, anyone know how many arm options there is?

It's the same price as the plastic troll kit at $55AUD over here, which I think means its 33 quid for you guys. That's pretty good value if I can squeeze three Ents out of the box.

I think you only get 1 complete set of arms & 2 heads if memory's correct? That being said, with the excellent work on the trolls, you should have no trouble creating / casting copies of the pieces you would need to squeeze another Ent out of the box ;)

Great work on these and a fantastic way to get the most out of the kit.

I've been working on the same sort of thing, with varying degrees of success. I have 2 trolls modelled on the ones hauling on the chains opening the Morannon. I'll post pics shortly

Thanks Crucium :)

JHK, only one arm set is a shame, singers and faces are always the hardest, but the lack of humanoid features on the Ents might actually make them easier. It's all just simple form work and then making those forms just look like a tree, or a piece of bark.

Might have to grab myself a box :D

Hey guys,

So [word deleted] photobucket. Seriously. Just doing a test of the dropbox method Farmer Maggot mentioned elsewhere so there's at least a couple of images if anyone browses this.

Looks like it works, although it is a little arduous.

Amazing work mate, you definitely made the kit worth it. I love all the scales on their backs, a great way to hide any muscular definition. I'll have to give this a go at some stage.

Also thanks for changing photo hosts, photobucket can go jump of the spur of Minas Tirith >:( it makes searching these old forums a nightmare.
