Today the UPS man delivered the result of a rush of blood to the wallet:

Having looked at the really complex Journey Book instructions for making Amon Sul, I wimped out and bought this instead. That's my hobby budget gone for a month or two :D

That is super cool! Can you post more photos, maybe some with a few models for a sense of its size? I would appreciate that :)

Wow, it is gorgeous! Really awesome, I want one at some point though I would be scared to paint it haha. I want to see more scenery pieces like this, even though there probably wouldn't be too many buyers..
Poor hobbits.. :D

Here we have a balsa-wood Buckleberry ferry, made to the instructions in the FotR Journey Book:

In the Journey Books scenario "The Flight to the Ford" you can play with either the book or film version.

I want to play the book version with Glorfindel - This means that Frodo starts on Asfaloth, while Glorfindel follows on foot.

So - I took an Arwen/Frodo model and chopped Arwen off!

Image

I went with merging Frodo's cloak into what was left of Arwen's so it looks like a giant riding cloak - Hopefully it will look okay once painted :)

That sure looks like a merry bunch! Nice work on them, good idea to paint them together so that colours match and you suddenly have the full life cycle ready for action.

Should've waited a few more months, then you could've had a Merry Christmas!
[waits for collective groan from audience.]
Anyway, they look great! I'm actually doing my fellowship hobbits right now too. I really like the elven cloak and was wondering if you'd share your paint formula.

That joke - Oh dear :yay:

My elven cloaks are just Vallejo Brown Violet, then a brown wash (I am currently using Army Painter strong tone) then a highlight with Vallejo Russian Uniform. I was previously using those colours for some tanks, and the result reminded me of the elven cloaks from the films enough for me to use it...

I've made some progress on the river sections:

Image

Still got to fill in the gaps in the foam from where it was bent around to follow the shape, then I can get on with getting some sand on the banks, spraying and painting!

Oh, and do the other 2 sections, I suppose :D

Are you going to make a ford or a bridge for the river?

Definitely a ford, and a jetty for the ferry, as both of those are needed for scenarios. May do a bridge at some point, though...
