Got the deck to the point where I can ignore it, at least until I have time to do the whole wharf. :-D

Noticed I need to add some more wash/detail/depth to the rope.

My table of shame.. Projects that I have been "working on" that keeps getting bigger. Most of it is waiting for nicer weather to prime, cast, etc but that doesn't excuse the figures on my paint table and lead pile waiting to be painted.

Image

From right to left:

Rock mold and earth pigments that I got at the most recent train show that I am waiting to cast and try the paints.

Bag of bases for my Warriors of Dale that I am slowly painting - thinking I might change my basing scheme on them to planks to match the barge and wharf.

Barge awaiting it's sail. Have the design I want on the sail, just need to focus and clean it up and make the sail.

Lake Town house. Need to cut the door out, prime, paint, etc. The wharf I want to build is still in design stage, also waiting for it to be drier outside so I can find some twigs I want to use for the pilings that will show.

Bought a three pack of the Osgiliath ruins that I am cutting up and modifying for a future project.

Gondor patrol - received some horses from a fellow one-ringer that I tried a new painting scheme on, need nicer weather to prime the Minas Tirith Knight figures. Replaced the lances with brass rods, kept the flags for future use. Followed Loki's Great Hall paint schemes for horses on YouTube, simple five step process.

Now to think of what else I can start and then get distracted away from...

Hi Mapper,

The deck looks brilliant, that is a great way to personalise the laketown houses. You should really build laketown at some point, especially the gate where Bard enters since you have that amazing barge.
Have you thought about incorporating parts of the Osgiliath ruins into your laketown scenery? In the Design Chronicles it is said that they imagined Laketown as standing on the ruins of some ancient town, those stone textures would really add more interest.

Cheers,
Bennet

Bennet, I have that book also, it is both an inspiration and a curse as I have no where near the talent of WETA. :) I have tried using some Hirst blocks and Osgiliath ruins and wood together but never seem to get what I wanted. That said, I thought I would try again and looked at my house and what I had already cut up. How does this look?

Image

Nevinsrip - looking at my previous picture I knew I had to take better pictures of the horses as the color was way off. The horses I received from you worked great! I took the ones that had the smaller bases to fit on the standard GW base and went from there. Depending on the pose, some fit the metal figure better than others and there is some difference in the distance between the blanket and the tail. The ones with the bigger area I will use for the lancers as the bedroll fits better on them. Again, thanks.

That piece of ruin is a very interesting idea, I'm not sure about it though. If you are going to use it, you'd have to cut through the walkway and extend the ruin to the water though to show that it was there before the house. Then it can look very cool I believe.
I know what you mean about the chronicles, they're also a curse because every time I open them a new project starts forming in the back of my head. :-D

Cheers,
Bennet

I agree that the stone needs to go through the decking. I'm not sure how high my decking will be so I just cut it off to fit what I have now. I did keep the part I cut off to add back later. :-)

Converting a Minas Tirith Knight to a Captain, I replaced one of the heads with an extra Faramir I had. Of course, like any LOTR fan, when I had cut off the head I immediately said to myself: "release the prisoners!" Not having a catapult, I took a berserker and replaced the sword with a warhammer banner crossbeam I had.

Following behind the main battle line, this berserker decapitates the fallen enemy and tosses the severed heads onto their friends, causing courage tests to take place on the battlefield.

Just a fun little diversion/project.

Nice conversion! I especially like how you made it seem as if it's not touching the stick anymore, very dynamic! :yay:

Thanks everyone, it turned out better than I thought it would. It helps to have a good bitz box to stir the imagination.

Harfoot, even though it is Spring Training time here in the States for baseball, I was actually thinking of Orc Lacrosse as I was building it.

Feanor, just a simple trick of painting the bottom of the head and the hand first, putting a glob of model glue in the hand and pressing the head into it and then slowly pulling the head out to have the strands of glue stretching between the two. I used angled tweezers to keep it at the distance I wanted, then just painting the blobs of blood on the glue strands after it dried.

Very clever. May steal this idea in the future.

DMS - I have also seen glue strands used as drool on monsters.
