Thanks everyone! :)

Nice work! How did you make that desert base? I would love to try that out!

Cheers Elladan. So, as I mentioned above, I followed BrushStroke's great tutorial on desert basing for the most part with some changes:

kb.php?a=265

However, I started mine differently. I began by building up an irregular terrain-type on top of the base using blue tack. Then I placed the miniatures in the correct points and superglued them to the base (the bottom of the tab should be touching bare plastic - basically push the tab into the blue tack and then scrape out the bottom of the little imprint you've made to expose the black plastic in that isolated area). Then, I used a little more blue tack to blend the tabs into the "ground" before applying a couple of large rocks with superglue. Also, at this stage, I "sculpted" some foot prints between the two carriers into the blue tack. Then a layer of PVA was applied. Don't worry if this gets on the shoes of the minis - it adds to the effect later if painted. Like in BrushStroke's tutorial, sprinkle on a small amount of sand, some small rocks and then cover the base with Baking Soda. Shake/blow off the excess and paint. I painted mine in the following way:

- Basecoat Vomit Brown (a couple of watered down coats)
- Wash Reikland Fleshshade
- Drybrush Vomit Brown
- Drybrush Ushabti Bone

Then I finished it off by painting the rim black and added a couple of tufts of Mordheim Turf as desert vegetation.

BrushStroke's paint-scheme for the base gives a more muted effect but I was after something a bit more vibrant, almost 'warm-looking', if you get what I mean. The pictures don't show it in the best light but still, I'm pretty pleased with it :)

Thanks so much! :-D I was wondering how you achieved that sand dune look. Very nice! I hope to try this out when I have the time. Could I use greenstuff instead of blue tack?

No problem Elladan. Yep Greenstuff would work absolutely fine. I just prefer to use blue tack on the bases as it saves Greenstuff for other, more important things that need more fine detail sculpted etc. I don't have a lot of Greenstuff spare either...

I like the dark Blue on the guards and King. I think the painting is top notch. I don't even want to assemble mine, looks like a pain in the but model, but I think it is just fears from my old Slaan Mage Priest that had the 4 guards carrying it cause that model was really tricky to get right.
Anyway great work.

Cheers Sith. Yeah, it was rather difficult to figure out the best way of assembling the thing. In the end, I "dry-fitted" everything (with blue tack to keep the flag on the King's back) and then undercoated. Once that was dry, I split the piece up into its constituent parts and painted separately. I glued the base of the King's seat to a 25mm base for the painting stage to make things easier and the two Abrakhans' tabs were pushed into a slotta base until they were painted as well. The trickiest bit was not getting superglue on the already-painted carriers when I was putting the poles into their hands! :)

All in all though, it is a great model and I think well-worth the effort of assembling... :)

Here's my latest work. Am entering this and either the banner bearer or horn blower from the same box set in this month's challenge. Pretty pleased with this one, again just painting up at usual pace, not really taking too much time on blends etc. I'm hoping to push my painting a bit more on individual minis in the summer, but for now I'm happy to keep churning out minis at this level :)

So, here is the Rohan King's Huntsman:

C & C welcome! :)

Very impressive, the hair looks great, gives him an "aged" experienced look.

Here's the other half of my entry for the month's challenge. Bit of a rush-job but I have to say that the level of detail on the face on this one was rather disappointing. I really struggled to identify the areas of highlights - the eye area was practically non-existent. I suppose that's just the transfer of metal to finecast...

C & C welcome! :)

I have just found this thread and your work is spectacular! What paints did you use for gandalf in the diorama?

Great Work! I wish I could paint like that! I'm a Rohan collector and I love what you have done, especially on the King's Huntsman. 8) Can't wait to get my sticky paws on these minis!

How did you achieve the white hair on the Huntsman? I would like to try it out. :-D
