Hii guys, long time follower, first time poster hehe. Been looking at everyone's WIPS for quite a while now, they are all very impressive.
Anyway, i re found my models and stuff the other day when i was packing things up to move, and decided to keep them and try get back into painting rather then selling them. ---Pre-warning i am not a great painter at all---- but its all good fun (:
Decided to make a WIP to try and give me some motivation to paint them more since i have so many models to work on

Painted this guy a week or 2 ago (ive cleaned the bits of greenstuff off him now btw xD)

More or less all the painted ones could do with repainting or a touch up too xD

I take on board all critisms an what not, as i expect them, but please dont flame me too much :puppy:

Your troll looks great, the skin tone is spot on!!
Only thing I can suggest if I may is that maybe give the armour a wash with devlin mud or some heavily watered down scorched brown. Give it a dirtier batte worn look to it.
Great painting and an excellent start to your WIP thread. Looks like you have your hands full with plenty of models to paint.

will be re doing the painted ones

Just done some rough ones to see what i like, did this to the armor and was wondering what you think to it, i coated it black, then mithril silver, then shining gold ( but it was too bright) so did quite a heavy brush of tin bitz

also noticed that my mumak isn't put together right i am missing the part that comes out over the mumaks head :o

From what I can see on the cloaks the variation between basecoat an highlight is extremely stark. My advice would be too use a mid tone that is applied straight on to the more raised areas of the baseoated clok - mid tone lighter than the baseoat but darker than the bright highlight you have finished up on there. Once the mid tone is applied - use the brighter highlighting colour you have used there and just highlight the most prominent raised areas of the cloak. All your cloak highlights are in the right place mate its just the jump between the 2 shades is a little escessive a mid tone will really help to smooth it out. No need to change the ones you have done they look great - armour is spot on and the blue is a nice touch. Have a crack with the mid tone on your next lot 8)

I saw the first photo of your remaining models and I thought "Hmm these are not so many what is he talking about" and then I scrolled down and suddenly I sympathized with you and your ongoing effort. Your troll looks nice. I agree with DMS's comment, you need to apply more tones to make the transition between colors smoother and more natural and then you can also use washes it will help accentuate the different shades and indentations. I like your troll, I wish I'd have him :(

I agree with what the other guys said - you're on the right track but a little bit off.

Is that Burnished Gold you've used for the Armour? It's quite an inconsistent colour straight out of the bottle - this is what gives you the darker less opaque areas. A good way to combat this is to do a preliminary layer of Tin Bitz (Bronze) or a brown of sorts - it brings out the warmth in the gold. I'd also say that rather than dipping into the bottle, get a bigger brush and scoop some onto a pallette and mix it with your brush first. :)
