Swinging back to Isengard, we have some Crossbowmen, the kind of guys who sass Aragorn.
Tolkien wrote:
"Get down or we will shoot you from the wall," they cried. "This is no parley. You have nothing to say".
"I have still this to say," said Aragorn. "No enemy has yet taken the Hornburg. Depart, or not one of you will be spared. Not one will be left alive to take back tidings to the North. You do not know your peril."
So great a power and royalty was revealed in Aragorn, as he stood there alone above the ruined gates before the host of his enemies, that many of the wild men paused, and looked back over their shoulders to the valley, and some looked up doubtfully at the sky. But the Orcs laughed with loud voices; and a hail of darts and arrows whistled over the wall, as Aragorn leaped down."

Thanks, that means a lot coming from you. Your Rohirrim were a big part of the inspiration for this project.

Hey thats real nice of you to say. The inspiration works both ways your Erkenbrand has an outstanding paint job and looks a nice miniature to paint. I think I have one lying around somewhere just need to find the time to paint him now.

I'm not a big fan of the Pellanor Eomer model, so this guy is probably going to do service for both profiles. The Pellanor model is great, I prefer the rider, but the horse's pose drives me crazy, he looks like he's falling over backwards...

Cameras are funny, both these Eomer's were taken with the same camera under very similar conditions. Check out the difference in tone between the two base rims. In reality they are exactly the same color.

p.s. My son has been watching a lot of Iron Man recently, and painting up a red and gold guy with a big shiny disk in the middle of his chest has been a little weird...

Very nice Eomer. 8) I like that horse better than the original one. The colours look great.

Awesome painting, I love the bright vibrant colours (especially on Eomer)

Thanks all, there is more contrast between some different reds that is more easily seen in reality. I tried to highlight the ridges of the armor, but the picture looks pretty solid red.

Good work on the Rohirrim, Eomer, and Uruks - your painting is excellent, and seems to be incredibly fast too, so well done 8) 8) 8) :D By the way, how do you paint the hair on your Rohirrim?

+1 to this, you make me want to dig out my Erkenbrand and repaint him right now, the same with Eomer. 8)

The speed is deceptive, I actually started this project last month and painted up 24 Uruk-Hai in June. I've been taking pictures of what I've got done, but after I get round to posting the Pikemen I'll be through my June set and will slow right down. My plan for this month is to get as many Rohan warriors painted as I can as I've got two heroes leading only three riders at the moment.

The blonde hair varies a bit from model to model. It is either a base of Vomit Brown or the muddier of the two "Foundation" yellows (I forget the name, but I prefer it to the new yellows as they're pretty neon). The base is washed with either Griffin Sepia or thinned out Devlin Mud to get some depth and then highlighted with a brighter yellow. The final step is drybrushing on a little Bleached Bone.

That's the last of the Rohan/Isengard stuff I've got painted, so updates will slow down now. Neither is really usable yet, my Rohirrim have too many heroes and not enough troops, my Uruk-Hai have plenty of troops but not a single captain to lead them...

Isengard: 248pts
