I use argax earthshade on my yellows to tone it down. My yellow formula is: XV 88 base, argax earthshade, XV 88 highlight with med brush, vomit brown highlight with small brush. Works great for orcs, it complements the green skin nicely. It's kind of a muddy, scours-coloured finish.

I would love to help, but for some reason the images aren't loading for me. I'll have to try a different browser later, but I will say that GW's washes are worth the money. I use Agrax Earthshade a lot, and the colored ones are nice for glazes. Mixing paint and water does work well too for certain things, but overall I think washes are a bit better, and you get consistent results with them.
I'll try and give some better help when I get a chance to look at the pictures.

Got some Nuln Oil on here and some more layers to dull my egregious highlights. Of course after receiving my 24ml bottle, I promptly spilled HALF!

Anyway, this stuff is great. Paints on really well due to its flow and settles in all the right places. Only thing I noticed is it settled a bit too much in the deeper crevices near the armor.

I'm pleased with the progress on here, can't tell how much more groundwork I want to put in before getting to details, a final wash, and basing. I just got a W&N S7 but I'm afraid to open it before getting brush cleaner! How do I take care of this new brush?

I've got 4 final exams next week and an insane AI project to code up... Wish me luck!

I casted some Hirst Arts blocks in June using the Bridge mold and Prison Tower mold. I've built the prison tower before but wanted to build something with more mass.

Here are some WIP pics, I have a bit more casting to do. I'm aware there are a lot of spaces and that things don't fit as well as they should... The plaster of paris is definitely inferior to dental stone.

The inspiration for this project is the Palazzo dei Papi in Viterbo.

I also wanted to make a door big enough for my troll... Not sure where this will come into play yet.

This is what I'm hoping to do! I've got some thick moss-like flock that I'll shove in the gaps once it's painted.

What a great building to take inspiration from! Stairs, arches, can't go wrong.

Sorry you are having problems with the plaster of paris, I haven't used dental stone so I can't tell you the difference.

Two things I use to fill in gaps or bubble holes:

Rub two discarded blocks together to make some plaster dust and then put glue in the cracks between blocks and then press fill with the plaster dust - looks kinda like mortar.

For big gaps or more consistent filling, I use this:

In fact, if you look at my gondorian wall thread, you can see where I used this. I had built the tower in two pieces and they didn't quite line up when I put them together. I used the putty to even it out. I pressed a block into the putty to give it the same texture, what I didn't do and should have done is carved block lines into it.

Will be following this - looks great!

Great start on some HA terrain.
That’s a great tip from Mapper, I’ll have to remember that for next time.

Going to try to post a bit more here to keep myself on track...

Been working on these for a year!? Need to close them out. The Nuln Oil I bought was shiny and I'm kind of bummed about the toyish look. I'm going to try to dull them a bit and create a more matte look.

I also bought some Rohan Royal Guard on foot to try to give myself something to look forward to.

Been looking for some paint jobs to inspire my Royal Guards. Drop a link if you're aware of anything!

Got a few games in this weekend! Haven't played in a few years.

Still playing with the old rules. Interested in getting the new ones. Do you guys prefer them noticably? We're also thinking about battle companies...

I picked up an open box of the Two Towers set from ebay today! The sourcebook, 8 riders, and 16 uruk warriors.... only $17 shipped!
