Brilliant color scheme, excellent freehand and wonderful bases...really impressive looking army!! :)

Thanks Bilbo .. the freehands driving me crazy I'm midway through another 14 of these guys - the freehand goes down both sides of the inside of the cloaks and accross the bottoms of the back so theres lots of it :o these things seem like a good idea at the time

When you see the model up close in the photos its really easy to forget just how intricate that detail on the cloak is. Fantastic stuff.

I haven't seen the whole thread but I would love to see you have a go at the Gamling miniature with the Royal Standard. I'm in awe of the freehand horse on the GW painted one so I would be interested to see how you fared with it :)

Gamling with royal standard is somewhere in this thread - tho I have to say I struggled with the horse on the banner and on the mounted version never really got to a stage where I was happy with it - might be easie to find going to http://www.thedeadmarshes.com and looking under rohan.. please let me know what you think of it

You got me thinkin about that Royal standard again, like I say I wasn't happy with my first attempt. Sooooo I've ordered another one from GW and am going to paint it up as part of my commanders group for the March Painting challenge. Hope I can do better this time round 8)

Found it on the blog. I think it looks great (it actually looks like a horse which is half the challenge really). If you're going to try again then I would try to stretch the horse out across the banner a bit more because on the GW one the horse design spreads across virtually the whole banner. Easier said than done though I know because the banner isn't flat (I would have attempted it as you have done too). Its certainly one of the hardest if not the hardest item to paint in the entire range. I think most people wouldn't even attempt to paint that design tbh.

So the horse isn't raised on the banner, you have to free-hand it?

The best way is to sketch out witha white pencil on a dark background etc. You probably know that though. Good luck. 8)

Just saw DMS's Rohirrim today in the flesh (so to speak) and they are amazing. :D Looking forward to seeing his next army on thursday. (I'm teaching him to play).
