That is a lovely shade of blue, and the armour looks fab too!

Looking nice. What sources are you using for your colors or are you just making them up on your own?

I saw a converted balrog to be Gothmog the other day on Facebook and it got me thinking about how I would do a conversion of Ecthelion of the Fountain Court.

For some of the peoples, there are descriptions of their houses colors in text, but for most, there are not. In that case, I simply refer to the hundreds of online pictures from different artists i've accumulated throughout these past few years. There are quite a bit.

Google/Pinterest provide a lot of these pictures.

Btw, didn't realize the yt video was private. Just made it public

Started to work on Finrod's people now.

Colors include: Cream, white, silvers, hints of gold, red and light green

Using these colors, this is what the beginning looks like.

Here's what the armor will look like. I included reds and greens in the armor for color cohesion.

And the cloak. Cream color w/ red. I kinda like how this turned out. What do you guys think?

Uhm... I think red is good for Feanor's sons, that was a fierce folk, while Nargothrond was a wood and secret people. What about a noldor-blue variation instead, such as greenish-bue or blue-gray? Both mimetic and elegant.
The model chosen is very nice, I too had thought to be the best fit one for Nargothrond. 8) GW Mirkwood cavalry too is perfect, although with a lance or spear it would be a bit more "noldorish", I think.

I think it's looking rather nice. Trying to place the parts you've used ...

@Hurin_it Yeah, the majority of reference pictures I have seen include those greyish green tones. I will probably switch over to something like that. I am kinda happy w/ how the cloak came out, but in the back of my head I was like, "this should mostly be green" haha.

@metalface13. What do you mean, placing the parts? haha

And good that creamy cloak too. But, singularily indeed, they were already geenish in my haead since long long ago... Certaiinly because they are both Noldor and wood-dwellers, thus that colour comes easily to minds. :-D

So I tried out something...Combined VMC Basalt Grey w/ Scale Color Caspian Blue to get a greyish blue for a basecoat, then added some Scale Color Deep Blue for the shadows (I purposely didn't go any further w/ the shadows b/c I was too lazy, I will if I end up doing this color recipe for the cloak). For the highlights, I added in VMC Light Grey, then glazed this same color towards the highlights and then the same w/ Pure White

I quite like this color scheme

I don't recognize the model, is it one of the Armored Mirkwood Elves but converted? Or one of the Ridgeback Miniatures elves?

The color on the high elf archer's cloak looks great.

That's interesting, for I made a deep research but didn't find any model that fits enough for this role. May be a modified GW 'Armoured Glorfindel' or DSM 'Male High Elf Warrior'?

@metalface13...It's actually from a different small miniature company. I will DM you the name of it since we're not really supposed to talk about third party miniature companies on this forum.

I looked at Darksword Miniatures too, there are some great minis, especially by Tom Meier. But I worry the scale might be too big. I think Glorfindel, Celeborn or Rumil could all serve as a base for Ecthelion. The hardest part for me is envisioning what the spike on his helm would look like.

The scale of Darksword miniatures is a little bit bigger than GW miniatures, yes

Some more work on Finrod's house.

Finished the breast plate, mail, and various undergarments. Still need to do the cloak, helmet, face, boots and sword.

Simply cannot believe how smooth and convincing your colours are.

Excellent job, your color are really rich and the transitions are super smooth, really lovely minis.

I'm interested in the alternate minis you used and was able to track them down succesfully. Would you mind giving your thoughts on the quality of the minis themselves and maybe a size comparison picture? It would be really useful.

Thabks in advance and keep up the good work, seeing the results of your careful work is really encouraging

@Lothiriel...Thanks, blending is something I have been working on for years and years now, and it seems to finally be coming all together.

Here is a NMM sword I painted up today. Quite like the technique I used to paint this up. It is a simple concept to grasp.

Alright, so the prototype for Finrod's people's is done.

I will admit this. I am not particularly happy w/ the end result. A small part has to be due to the poor sculpt of these mini's. They came w/ the body, but w/ the sword not attached, so I had to use green stuff to connect the two. Also, the cloth is not fully smooth, there are a lot of irregularities in the plastic. All of this made it tough at parts to get a good look.

I also need to practice on my freehand and painting realistic looking shields. So if anyone knows of good tutorials/resources, let me know.

Here are some pics, followed by a youtube vid, circling the figure.
