Damn quick work Charlie - I only wish I was as active, haven't touched a brush in nearly a fortnight :-X :-X
The fence works well for me but with a couple of suggestions.
A few support posts for the fence would make it look more realistic and the odd bit of damage - nothing too much though :yay:

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

I have decided to attach the fence to the piece with small magnets. I don't quite have enough fence. The fabric store has some that is unpainted I will pickup before I meet friends for dinner. I really think I want to make another. I was thinking that a flower bed along the fence would look cool.A broken board or two will work as well. When I made this piece I did not leave room for any thing but the tower outpost or a tree.

The tower holder probably would prefer not to have a fence.

I have not updated in awhile. I am going to finish some on going projects while I cast bricks for the Hall and Deeping wall. I am going to finish up the road and rock sections this week. I have to trim some of the bases a little so they line up better. I was not careful enough when I glued some of the bark. They don't line up in both directions like I planed.

Image Image Image Image

I would like some suggestions befor I glue the bark to the new bases. I am not sure I should not shorten the rocks on the left side of the new ramp section or not. Also the center rock might need to be shortened on the new switch back section. I am not sure. Suggestions are always welcome.

I think I'd wait to do a dry test on putting everything together before I shortened anything: while you may well need to, there's no going back if you do.
Aside from that, everything here looks outstanding. I truly envy your terrain making skills. :yay:

it looks very good and I also can't say anything before it's put together.

It is very hard so see a whole from just a few parts.I intend for the road sections to be modular parts. I am trying to make them so I can use them for as many different set ups as possible. The road to the Misty Mountains in this example.

Image

My camera is so old it uses floppy disk. That was cool way back then. But a phone will make a better photo now.
I still have a huge amount of work to do on the individual sections.

I decided to include another example. So I used the same sections for a cave. I included the unpainted switch back. The left side back drop section has some green on it. If I don't over do it a little green will work in the cave too.

Image

So suggestions and comments will be very helpful.

Yep, time to update your camera my friend.
Your work though is as ever wonderful and it's a fantastic sight to see this come together. As always I try for an idea - this time I'm thinking of some form of sentry post. The path to the Misty Mountains would have had eyes - good or bad. It could be a pillar type or even something more covert.
Like you say, you like to mix and match so I think something like this will have many uses for your gaming ?

You have given me so many ideas I have to keep notes. I had not thought of sentry post. I will include them now. I had thought about some covert paths. I was going to hide them in the facades. I build an interior for a pet shop rock and added a tea candle.I am going to add some cave paintings. I wanted to make some more places that the goblins could hop about. I thought it would be cool to have camp fires scattered in the cave.

Image Image Image

The great Gobin's cave for the Hobbit is 300 ft across. That will translate to about 60 inches wide . So I when and found more bark.

Great job mate, really amazing. I wonder where u store all that stuff. I like the road, it looks really good. (so does the rest.). U talk about letting the gobs hop around, U should make some crowling down on the rocky walls or pillars if u add those. It's just the scary abbility they have. Kinda creepy when thousands of them come down to get u. Or that is at least my favourite abbility of those little gobs. :-D

That is magnificent work! I almost expect a troop of gobbos to jump out right there! :o
As to the camera, you can tell it's kind of old, but don't feel bad about it either: I've got a much newer digital model recently & I can't even get the thing to save pictures I'm taking with it.
So. Suggestions: What about a "secret stair" type of path around the higher parts of the road, so that models can mount sneak attacks from lower as well as higher up? Or perhaps a section where a gully or stream is threatening to wreck the road?
Also, if you can get hold of a little gravel, the stones can make great, easily movable boulders for extra terrain detail that you can change whenever you feel like it. A few of them glued together could even make a reasonable "landslide" to cause problems for Thorin and Co.

In any case, this is yet another example of your outstanding terrain making skills. Well done! :D

I have a work space problem right know. It has intruded into my gaming room. I will finish remodeling the kitchen and bath rooms and everything will work out.
I make everything so that it can be stored and easily transported to game conventions. The shire fits in one box. So does my Halloween game. I keep large trees and game mats in large plastic tubs.Dennis is coming down today from Kentucky for a Ancients game. It will require a six by twenty four foot table. That will take one large tree tub, a hill tub, a game mat tub and one army bag. In the truck in five minutes. Dennis is bringing some special new buildings.

Image Image Image

The Misty Mountains will also fit in one box. I will probably have to build another for Goblin town.
A suggestion for young people going away to College or still at home with you parents The plastic tubs designed to slide under the bed will hold lots of stuff if you build it to fit.

I have been working on this and a few more of the suggestions I have received.I have cut out the big parts and I need to paint.

Image Image Image

I will be able to use many of the bark back drop parts with Helms Deep. However, I have been mostly working on ideas for scenes from the Hobbit. Any one have Ideas of what the Elf cave should look like :?:

So your doing the inside of the cave? When I read the book, I didn't really think there would be anything fancy in it. Just a cave, with cells & a few old pillars. The place would be damp, with plants growing up the sides. It would have some carvings round the door etc.. There would be plenty of barrels around, just perfect hobbit size :D . That was only my view of what I thought it looked like. Everyone will have a different suggestion.

Drum

P.S. Impressive hobbit holes, you could have a production line going soon!
