Hey guys im new here and this log is to motivate me to start painting and playing LOTR again. I have been doing 40k and Fantasy for a long time and i have decided to take up my Gondor army which after counting up my old army comes to 36 WoMT, 24 Rangers, the Aragorn/Strider model with flaming brand and the helms deep aragorn. So here are some test pieces:

Sorry for the blurry pics. I have just had my first go at highlighting on the rangers cloak, i hope i can be seen. C&C welcome and appriciated.
Thanks for looking.

EDIT: just found a captain, banner bearer and 3 citadel guard. I am stripping them of paint at the moment.

A good start, though you may want to fix up the green patch on the hilt of the sword and touch up a few other palces. I would also suggest you be more careful about how much basing material gets on the mini and also to use less grass on the bases as a few smaller patches would look neater and more realistic. You may also want to have a look at this article.
Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the reply. Ill try to be neater with the basing stuff but i was doing it at 11 o'clock at night. I never saw the green patch on the hilt before. Thanks for pointing it out.

I have almost finished the other two rangers and the WoMT. I started on 5 more WoMT as well.

Any other comments would be great.
Cheers

So i have finished the spearman and rangers:

But i still have a lot to do:
Image

The next five WoMT are almost finished, just the bases to go:
Image

And i decided to start the captain:

After i finish him then i will have the starter battle company, so i can play against my friends just started rohan force (i gave him a load of old stuff i had, the basis was 16 riders and 24 on foot, from what i can remember, but it also has theodred and some royal guard).

Any comments and tips are very welcome.

Hey guys, update time.
I have finished the WoMT and almost the captain. So i have a full Gondor battle company ready, but i still have to do one more warrior because i received a reinforcement. The writing on the bases is just names so i can tell them apart. Anyway onto the pics:

only criticsm if people agree with me is that the armour is a bit too light. Like me you may want to give the armour a wash whenever im painting gondor i alway use a mothril silver basecoat and then quite a a strong chaos black wash. Otherwise nice models :)

Hey Cyndra. Nice work on those bases - they really add a lot to the figures; An extra dry-brush highlight of Bleeched Bone might make them stand out even more :)

Good idea to write the names of the warriors of your BC on the front of the bases, never thought of that before...

Your Rangers look great, i hope to aquire a box of them soon. One thing i wolud improve is on your Captain's shield, paint it a different brown to the gloves to distinguish it, or if you dont have another one then mix in some black.

Keep it up!

And my entire painted gondor force:

Looks great! I like the green you used on the shields and cloaks, it ties them together and personalises them aswell.

One thing i would do is just dull down a couple of the models with a wash, i can see you have already, but the archer on the bottom picture on the right terrain piece on the far left looks a bit bright. It could be the camera though.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the reply. It is just the camera. All models have a Badab Black wash on metal and green parts and a Delvan Mud one on flesh, leather and the back of the shields.

I still need to finish that wood though.

No but if i had seen the vid i would have been. I was inspired by the ranger in fiefdoms section of gondor in flames. Did you get your idea from there?

yes i saw them on this image, and I decided to create a 'new' color scheme.. I saw it before the GW staff changed the site, on the French old version.

I like the scheme very much but for a gondor army or ithilien army it doesn't look quite right. but for dol amroth it is perfect. But i dont really have the skill to pull it off properly.

I totally agree, it would be strange to see rangers with blue clothes in the forest trying to disappear from orcs eyes..

I haven't done much on aragorn, because i cant really use him in battle companies. But i have converted a captain and started painting a banner bearer and the other 2 citadel guard.

Captain
I gave sculpted a cloak and a beard and used aragorn's head for the conversion: But im pretty terrible with green stuff.

I have come up with a hero to lead my army from this generator: http://membres.multimania.fr/votr/lotrcostcalc.html
This was suggested in this thread:
http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18452

Anyway here it is:

Berethor the Grey
F S D A W C M/W/F
5/4 4 7 3 3 5 2/2/2
Man Hero, heavy armor, shield, sword, lance, horse.
Abilities: Mighty Hero; Horn of Gondor
Cost: 180

He will be represented by my converted captain in the post above. What do you guys think. Too overpowered?

No painting update at the moment, but i played my first LotR SBG game today (apart from battle companies) for about three years. It was a draw but my captain did very well killing 4 warg riders, 2 beserkers and an uruk-hai. It was a 400pt game. Im looking forward to playing some more games.
