What you have done on Gimli looks great so far. He does have dark clothing and the red is subtle but from what I can see it looks good.
My suggestion would be to create some smoother blending for the red leather.
Use some thinned Terracota - about 10 parts water to 1 part paint.
Apply this in a series of glazes with just enough paint on your brush that it almost dries as you finish the stroke.
A few glazes like this will smooth the blend, then you could use the same principle for the highlight.
As you can see this will be a touch time consuming, so it's if you think it's worth it.

Cheers mate, due to moving and such Gimli has bee abandoned for the time being, but thats okay because I have finally moved back into painting lotr minis and so here is the beginnings of me legolas. His eyes still need work and I am going to do one more highlight but other than that i think its good.
Let me know what you think.
