High Elf Conversions

I may have been quiet on this site for a couple of years (out on my motorbikes for most of that time - which are now sold [sobs] due to carpal tunnel syndrome) but I'm now busy painting and converting again and soon may do some more sculpting. It's been a long time!

Now I'm trying to figure out how to get pictures from photobucket onto this page.
Any tips?

YES!
very happy you're starting up again!
I'm a really big fan of your work (particularly the dragon :yay: )

To do picture from photobucket you copy the direct link to the picture, click the 'img' button up there ^ and paste it inbetween the 2 pairs of brackets

:)

Ah, I found it! Thanks.

Wanting to get a bit of variety in my elf army and create the look of that almighty clash of elves and orcs from FoTR, I've been busy doing some converting. These guys are all in various stages - some nearly done, and some still needing a good deal of work. Over all, I am happy with how they are turning out.

Ignore the awful paint jobs! That's how they arrived. They'll get better treatment when I've finished converting.

For these three I added the shoulder armour and a bit of chainmail.

These spearmen are waiting for me to add shields.

I think that elves aren't allowed swords and shields, but seeing as they can use the two-handed weapon as a one-handed weapon if they want to, I can't see why not! Anyway, I made these guys, who are also awaiting the addition of shields. They remind me of riot police ready to do business with unruly orcs.

Very nice. Did you cut short the handles of the one handed swordsmen?

Sorry to hear about the CTS. But it is good to have you back in conversion mode - any sculpts planned?

Yes, out of necessity. The bottom half of the sword is held by the other hand, which had to be removed.

An old one, still not finished. A right-handed undead warrior. I need to do a few bits and pieces to finish him off. He's mostly done. I'd like to sculpt another arm so different sword arms and the shield arm can be attached at different angles. That way, converting will be easier as it will already have added some variety to the warriors.

Good to have you back Natarn. Can't wait for the next undead warrior.

Great work on the elf conversions they look really natural which is difficult to achieve with the plastic sculpts.

WOW!

The poses look so natural.

Every other conversion I have seen of people trying to put plastic elves in other positions looks really awkward. You sir, have achieved an incredible task.

I must ask you though, all of the elves are in individual unique positions, so why are all the riot place elves in the same position?

They aren't quite. As with most conversions, there are always differences -even if I were trying to make them the same, which I wasn't! They are all slightly different, although certainly similar. They are meant to be working together as a team with the same kind of synchronicity as the elves in FoTR as they fight together. So, they are all using the same combat moves but, being individuals, there are slight variations.

Yes. It may be a few days, weeks or months with the way I dot around on projects, but I will let you see how they turn out.

Thanks. They are a little bit tricky and need a good bit of cutting and arranging to make the limbs look 'right'. I've managed it with most of them. And then they need a fair bit of sculpting to fill in gaps.

I found that what worked best for me on some models was to get the forearms where I wanted them first before attaching the upper arms.

Please, please make an article on how to do these. Especially the spear-guys.

:) Thanks for the interest in my conversions. I'm glad you like them.

An article? I don't know. Perhaps. I do have a load more elves hanging around that I could convert.

Is it possible to write articles as we did in the 'old days' or does an article have to be posted in a WIP thread?

As far as I know the 'old days' article system is up and running. 8)

Great work as ever Natarn! Good to see you back here as well. Atleast you'd have to talk us through how you made the 'classic' pose of elves!
