What is the state of the game right now? Is GW going to continue production? Has the contract been renewed or is there any rumors about this? :?

Give us a minute bro, most of us are off having our tea :).

Well, I don't think anybody here can say whether they will be renewing the license or not. I really don't think that GW would make that public in any way before they made their minds up. I don't even trust GW store staff on this stuff as alot of it is second hand rumour thats been passed down from HQ and not from the horses mouth so to speak.

However it seems pretty clear that they're pushing War of the Ring, I don't know what their intentions for SBG are but it seems like it will take more of a backseat with the growth of WotR.

So, no need to panic right now, there is going to be alot of rumour and missinformation circulating about the license business, so until I read it in WD I'm not going to believe the rumours one way or the other.

Hope that answers your question :).

Will.

I'm pretty sure GW is going to continue production... nothing says otherwise atm. Maybe I'm mistaken

I must say I don't see the logic in retiring an entire range of products after you've spent millions developing them and starting over using a totally new style. But then corporations work in mysterious ways...

They could conceivably negotiate a 5 year license instead of a ten year one. They could even negotiate a 2 year license (mithril miniature's license is renewed every two years).

Thus they could keep producing the range until the Hobbit is close to being ACTUALLY completed. Then when the Hobbit production consortium is soliciting licenses, they could sign on then for a good deal. GW is one of the THE most profitable LOTR licensees, so they can negotiate like this.

While they ARE coming close to maxing out just about every practical troop type, they could still manage another year or two of major releases without the Hobbit.

Yep, between plastic high elves, plastic Arnor, Khand, werewolves, huorns, etc there's still a lot of room for development.

I would go so far as to say that their recent heavy investment in tooling for plastic LOTR minis is indicative of their intention to renew. Why spend money on a new mould if you can only run it for four months before your license expires?
