Upcoming 450 point tournament and I just can't decide between two lists I want to bring for my evil army. (Both using the new Throne of Skulls army list rules)
Number 1: Angmar
Burhdur
- 10 Orcs, 5 shields, 5 spears, one banner
-2 Spectres

Wild Warg Chief
-6 Wild Wargs

Orc Captain, shield
-9 Orcs, 5 shields, 4 spears and 3 bows
Model Count: 30
Bow count: 3
Might: 6
Broken: 16 dead
Quartered: 20 dead

OR

Number 2: Mordor
Mouth of Sauron on armoured horse
-6 Morannon orcs with shield
-6 Morannon Orcs with spear

Shagrat, captain of Cirith Ungol, shield
-6 Orcs with spear, one banner
-6 Mordor Uruks, 2 with shield, 4 with 2H

Gorbag, shield
-4 Orcs with spear
-5 Orcs with shield
Model Count: 36
Bow count: 0
Might: 7
Broken: 19 dead
Quartered: 24 dead

So, if you had to choose, what would you like to play, or alternatively, what are you more afraid of?

I would prefer your second list to play, I suppose this list is stronger.

By chance I played just this Saturday an Angmar army of about 400 Points with Buhrdur, a shade and two spectres, the rest were orcs on foot and five warg riders. I did win, but I wouldn't have with Buhrdur alone. The shade was very helpful in securing the center of the battleline. But in your first list there is only Buhrdur as a mighty hero. Don't expect too much from the spectres. They are useful against non hero models of courage 3 or less, and they can idiot charges because of their terror rule.

In your other army Shagrat is great and Gorbag is not bad. The Mouth of Sauron I played only once and he was not so convincing (my subjective opinion, of course). The wild wargs are not so competitve in my experience. I would not expect them to survive very long in melee, but they can be useful for other duties.

Well, that's how I would decide, if I had to use one of these two armies unchanged. If it were allowed, I would alter it a little.

Please offer suggestions I would love to hear any thoughts on either a similar angmar or mordor force.

Wild Wargs and their chieftain are adorable unit. The fact is though, that, they are overpriced. So, from thematic, yes, from competitiveness - no.

Buhrdur is actually quite powerful melee unit, very worth its points!

Here is nevertheless a new army list suggestion. I do not know what you own already, but...

*Buhrdur
-12 orc warrior

*Barrow-wight
-11 orc warrior

*Orc Captain on warg
-6 wild warg
-4 warg rider with shields, 2 with throwing spear

Overall: 36 units, 5 might, 1 mage, and a "strong" cavalry flank unit.

Explanation: Buhrdur will beat any enemy hero you are going to face... Most likely. So, you can use barrow-wight to enemy captains, let's say an elf captain has just 1 will so you can paralyze 60+ points hero easily. Or let's say if the enemy would have a troll chieftain (mordor/buhrdur), they also have just 1 will so again an easy paralyze 1/3 of enemy army! Nazgul can though sap will = gg wp useless barrow, but hey, you cannot get everything.

Angmar can't even take wild wargs?

Are you the dark lord of the Threaded fortress of Dul Guldur? Because the White Council recognises you as the Necromancer of this thread, haha.

You are right about the wild wargs; although I can see them being thematically allied in from the Moria list without an issue.

Ah of course, they could be allied in. Did not think about that :)
